I recently had the honour of receiving an Honorary Doctorate from Kingston University.
In my acceptance speech, I shared three principles that have shaped my journey:
1. Kindness and Empathy: Our true legacy isn’t in accolades, but in the impact we have on the lives of others.
2. Believe in Your Individuality: In a world full of opinions, your unique voice and values are your compass.
3. Never Stop Evolving: Embrace change, and remember—the ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn is your greatest strength.
I ended my speech by saying:
“Graduates of Kingston University, your journey is just beginning.
You have the power to shape the future, to create a world that is more inclusive, innovative, and compassionate. As you leave here today, carry with you the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the dreams that have taken root in your hearts.
Remember, you are not defined by your past but by your actions and choices in the present. Be bold, be kind, and never stop dreaming. The world is waiting for you, and I have no doubt that you will make it a better place.”
My hope (as it always is) is that this message is used to push boundaries, challenge narrow assumptions, and create a future that is unapologetically bold, compassionate and transformative.
More than just celebrating my honorary doctorate, I am reinforcing my own commitment to living these principles daily, demonstrating that they are not abstract ideals but actionable ways to create meaningful impact, both in business and in life.
Edited on Monday the 23rd of September!
