"If we are in positions of power – and when we work with young people we are – the effects of our actions can be vast. It is our responsibility to reflect an examine the practice we use in our schools and classrooms."
For years I thought being strict was the only way.

A continuum of supports is a multi-tiered system that offers various levels of assistance to students, depending on their needs. In this blog post, we will explore the concept of creating a continuum of supports for behavior and attendance and discuss how it can benefit both students and schools. https://lnkd.in/gf3HeKB2

Teachers need to observe others and discuss rather than receive more PD. Internships are a great way to empower early career teachers and help ease the workload in the classroom. If we aligned the GTPA, an internship and leveraged out HALTs so they were freed up to mentor rather than given full loads of classes we could support our ITE, ECTs and increase retention rates.
The other side of this is the behaviour, it takes a village to raise a child, great teachers champion their students, they do not give up because they have self-efficacy- that is, they have belief and faith that they can make a positive difference in themselves, their students and others, and the world.
The “village” needs to stop laying the blame with schools and teachers, but rather reflect and take action on the culture and supports the “village” provides. This will support positive behaviour in schools.
Let’s unite with our teachers and schools and provide the village our young people deserve to create solutions that will help us all.

Oh, by all means let’s fix “the problem” in Australian classrooms by providing overburdened teachers with PD, so they can learn to “run a room”. You know, in all that time they don’t have… 🙄
Why is focusing on the smaller problem attractive? Coz there’s a market in it and fixing the real problem would cost much more.
These days information travels faster than speed of thought. Schools in constant effort to keep the pace, driving education in dynamic ways to students. However, there is a challenge and a critical anchor which often slows things down, which is: keeping parents up to date to what is going on in school and what is needed from them by the school.
In this video, learn how Schoolcool can help to address this problem.

I just wrapped up my third week of teaching high school geometry, and one thing is clear: there are some pretty significant learning gaps that need to be addressed.
As middle school teachers, you’re likely familiar with the gaps that arise from elementary school, but I wanted to share some of the most common challenges I’ve encountered so far at the high school level.
Head to this blog post for what I've noticed so far and my suggestions on how to help!
