At Ternary, we are excited to share that Yalei Wang has joined us as Vice President of Product Delivery. With his more than two decades’ product engineering and leadership experience at companies including Rippling and Cloudwiz (his own successful startup), Yalei’s vision will inspire our team to build on behalf of customers. Read the press release (https://lnkd.in/gjkjnWKQ). Curiosity is the throughline of Yalei’s career. Fascinated by physics, number theory, and relativity from a young age, he built his own telescope, in middle school, to study the moon and constellations. Then, in college, he built an image-acquisition card for his computer to convert analog signal from a CCD camera to digital data. The project sparked his interest in the interplay between hardware and software. Having burnished his technical skills in roles at Microsoft, Twitter, and eBay, Yalei discovered his passion for successful companies’ human dimension: understanding customers, competitors, and teammates. Founding Cloudwiz and shepherding it through acquisition, he learned to “amplify the capability of the technology by building a strong team.” Fostering growth and dialogue among Ternary’s product engineers, Yalei will ensure that Ternary has the “rocket fuel” to reach its potential for innovation and impact, empowering customers to maximize the value of their cloud investments. Ternary's success is built on delivering solutions that address specific customer pain points. Yalei will accelerate the pace of this innovation and widen its scope, while staying true to Ternary’s vision. Just as Yalei shielded his telescope lens from vibrations that might otherwise distort his view of the skies, Ternary will help customers discover insights in their data, filtering out “noise” from multiple million-line cloud bills. By aligning his team and building a flawlessly calibrated #FinOps platform, Yalei will help Ternary’s users see their financial picture—and, beyond that, their potential for growth—with inspiring clarity and scale.

It’s been 5 months since I moved to Silicon Valley and started at Stanford University, and in that time I’ve learned some valuable lessons. Some have come from my own experiences, while other come from friends and colleagues in the area. Here are my top three: 1. Even the world’s best companies, schools, and organizations don’t have everything figured out. Your “dream” school or company isn’t perfect. Some things will be unorganized or inefficient. But I see this as a positive thing, as it means there are opportunities for you to make an impact wherever you end up, no matter how “perfect” the perception of that institution may be. 2. Excellence comes from continued growth. No world-renowned engineer, businessman, or leader got where they are at by staying in the comfort zone. Every one of these types of people I’ve met so far are continually pushing the envelope to learn and expand their knowledge. They don’t sit back and say “Ah, I’ve made it.” 3. Good things take time. It’s been easy for me to get impatient and want success, opportunities, and expertise right now. But if it’s worth it, it’ll likely take years of consistent work to become even mildly proficient in your craft. I’m very lucky to be studying aerospace engineering where I’m at, and I’m excited for all that I’m learning. What else did I miss? What lessons shaped your career that you wish you learned earlier?
