Dubai unveils architectural competition to design sustainable homes of the future
A groundbreaking competition has been announced in Dubai, inviting global architects and designers to envision the “House of the Future,” a project aiming to redefine modern Emirati housing. This initiative, spearheaded by the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, encourages the creation of innovative home designs that harmonize with the UAE’s cultural heritage while prioritizing sustainability and cost efficiency. Participants are tasked with crafting designs that integrate eco-friendly materials, allow for modular expansion, and meet a strict construction budget of AED 800,000. Beyond aesthetic appeal, these homes must address practical challenges, offering adaptability to meet the evolving needs of residents in an increasingly dynamic world. Winners of the competition stand to receive a prize pool of €250,000 and the possibility of having their designs brought to life by the UAE government.
