I'm excited to announce our new research published in Animal Production Journal that explores a sustainable alternative to antibiotic growth promoters in poultry. We examined how a specific symbiotic supplement affects pullets when added to their diet from the starter phase. Our findings concluded that the use of symbiotics in pullets, beginning from the starter phase, can effectively replace antibiotic growth promoters. Here's a recent, short review article covering the topic of probiotics and postbiotics. The article briefly reviews the topic of probiotics and some of the challenges with probiotics such as environmental sensitivity, risks for bacterial translocation, AMR, etc. The article then reviews several categories of 'biotics' including postbiotics, proteobiotics, psychobiotics, immunobiotics, and paraprobiotics of which some of these categories could fall under the postbiotic definition. A non-allergenic wheat protein for growing better cultivated meat . As the world's population increases, cultivated or lab-grown meat -- animal muscle and fat cells grown in laboratory conditions -- has emerged as a potential way to satisfy future protein needs. And edible, inexpensive plant proteins could be used to grow these cell cultures. I am please to announce that our meta-analysis on [Effects of betaine supplementation on dry matter intake, milk characteristics, plasma non-esterified fatty acids, and beta-hydroxybutyric acid in dairy cattle: a meta-analysis], has been accepted for publication in Journal of Animal Science! 🐄📚. The findings of this meta-analysis suggest that betaine supplementation positively influences DMI, energy corrected milk, milk fat yield, milk lactose yield, and milk protein yield. Subgroup analysis further indicates that the positive effects are more pronounced in heat-stressed cows compared to those not exposed to HS. While, the analysis did not find significant effects on plasma NEFA or BHBA. In this study, the effect of using Chlorella sorokiniana in place of some fishmeal in the diet was evaluated on the farming of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) at different stocking densities. The results showed that dietary chlorella was effective in improving growth performance, immunity, intestinal health and disease resistance of shrimp, and this improvement effect is more obvious at high stocking density. In addition, at high stocking densities, dietary chlorella may also result in good synergistic relationships between immune and metabolic genes and intestinal beneficial bacteria to jointly promote shrimp growth and maintain shrimp health. As a PhD candidate focusing on scientifically validated solutions in agriculture, I delved into a fascinating study by Gitit Kra, Jayasimha Rayalu Daddam, Uzi Moallem, and others, titled "Alpha-linolenic acid modulates systemic and adipose tissue-specific insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and the endocannabinoid system in dairy cows." This study investigates the effects of omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids, specifically alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), on insulin sensitivity and immune function in dairy cows during the peripartum period. Key highlights include: - Compared to the control group receiving saturated fat, ALA supplementation led to lower plasma concentrations of inflammatory markers like IL-6 and IL-17α postpartum. - ALA cows exhibited higher systemic insulin sensitivity and a reduced percentage of white blood cells postpartum. - Intriguingly, in adipose tissue (AT), ALA cows showed pathways suggesting reduced insulin sensitivity, potentially balancing systemic responses.
