Why Project and Product Managers are a tax on #innovation. If all the deliverables are mapped out, and there is a deep repository of artifacts that can be referenced by each team member, and all the meeting invites have gone out proactively, and everyone knows what they need to do and when it needs to be completed, then why did Venture Capitalist come up with the Project Manager functional role. Let's put the last person to know at the center of every project we do. How much fat does your team have by not following our process and execution model...Fixed price delivery to the day. Anything less is design and technology debt.

Why not just be a consultant, where I could make the same amount of money but for less intensive tasks? Because I love getting my hands dirty. Recently, a CEO I spoke with appreciated my approach so much that he reached back out after a year of pivoting his product. He liked that I wasn’t just “consulting”; I was ready to build the science strategy alongside them, aligning with their new direction and potential investments. With a fractional CSO role, I get to dive deep into companies and build science strategies in real-time, instead of just delivering one-off projects. I can actually get to know the company — what I call “getting under the hood.” Understanding business objectives, organizational structure, customer lifecycle, market dynamics, and the decisions they need- that’s what I love. I don’t want to be disconnected from the mission and the team. I want to be part of the crew, working hard for the company like an employee (only fractional). Of course, a consultant can do a project or a survey, and it may be less costly in the moment but not in the long run. Often, what CEOs think they need for science becomes realigned once I do my due diligence and we work together to strategize. For you, hiring a fractional CSO over a consultant means getting someone who is truly invested in the company’s success, who will be there every step of the way, building and executing the strategy in real-time.
