An Unexpectedly Inspiring Catch-Up 🌍🌱 What started as a planned 30-minute catch-up turned into an engaging 2.5-hour conversation with someone so genuine and down-to-earth. Hearing about their company’s background was truly inspiring, and I was especially impressed with their Swiss founder’s vision and the commitment to a unique company culture that is rare in today’s market. Schindler Group has a remarkable approach to staff development, sending employees overseas to enhance cultural awareness and communication skills. This resonated with me, as it brought back memories of my own journey when I took on a role in Ho Chi Minh City. Though it was a short period, it involved connecting with people from across the globe—US, Britain, France, South Africa, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and many more. My wife and kids even joined me, adapting together as a family. Conversations like these remind me of the importance of cultural understanding and the growth it brings. It’s been six years since I returned to Sweden after working for several years in Italy, and the differences between the two work cultures continue to intrigue me. In Sweden, the emphasis on employee rights is clear, with strong labor laws that promote work-life balance, job security, and a structured, supportive work environment. This creates a foundation where employees feel valued and can thrive professionally. In Italy, the work environment is deeply rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. The Italian approach places a high value on quality and a strong sense of regional identity. While the work structure can be different from Sweden’s, there is a deep commitment to excellence and pride in the work being done. Currently, I am working in a Nordic team, where, despite the cultural similarities within the Nordic region, there is still a valuable opportunity to learn from each other and broaden our perspectives. Even within this regional context, diverse viewpoints and approaches continue to enhance our collective work experience and personal growth. As Matshona Dhliwayo wisely said, “A garden’s beauty never lies in one flower.” This quote encapsulates my belief that the richness of any work culture, much like a garden, comes from the diversity of its elements.
