Raising Awareness for Endometriosis in the Workplace Today, a post from Endometosis UK really caught my eye. As many of you know, I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis in 2023 and am currently waiting for major surgery. This journey has been incredibly challenging, but seeing positive steps being taken to support women with this condition is truly inspiring. I was so pleased to see that Admiral has implemented measures to support women in the workplace suffering from endometriosis. This initiative will not only help so many women feel supported but also raise awareness and foster better understanding of the condition within workplaces. For those who may not know, endometriosis is a debilitating condition that affects 1 in 10 women, yet it is often misunderstood and overlooked. Creating supportive policies and environments, like Admiral has done, is a step in the right direction for ensuring women don’t have to suffer in silence. Men’s health remains an important issue and continues to be highlighted and supported by many campaigns and charities. Integrating year-round initiatives with key campaigns such as ‘Movember’ can be a solution. Ensuring those initiatives have real meaning and senior-level sponsorship will be key to delivering a genuine commitment to improving men’s health at work and ultimately in wider society. Some people will know that Sport England works to increase all types of physical activity, not just sport. It's why we have a partnership with the Richmond Group of Charities, work led superbly by my colleague Tom Burton. Today they have produced Millions More Moving, which is a report on how national policymakers can tackle inactivity, by supporting people with long-term conditions to move more. It sets out three ‘shifts’ in the policy landscape that will help maximise the role of movement in health: 1. Ensure leadership and accountability 2. Embed movement in healthcare 3. For these organizations, enormous salaries aren’t just a luxury—they’re an impossibility and I know that from the 25 years I spent working for smaller organizations. Their focus is on ensuring every dollar maximizes impact, often relying on dedicated staff and volunteers who go above and beyond for the cause and this has certainly always been my experience. On the flip side, larger charities offering competitive salaries are often scrutinized. But here’s the reality: attracting and retaining top-tier talent is essential to drive large-scale missions and manage complex operations. Offering competitive compensation isn’t about extravagance, though I understand why it might seem that way. It’s about securing the expertise, fostering innovation, and ensuring the sustainability needed to achieve their mission. Take hospital foundations, for example—without them, we wouldn’t have access to life-saving medical equipment. Isn’t that exactly what we want and expect from organizations that impact our lives so profoundly? 📢 New report calls for ‘social prescribing fund’ Our new report, Envisaging a Social Prescribing Fund, makes the case for a long-term fund to support community activities, groups and services that benefit people’s health and wellbeing.  The proposed 10-year fund would bring together contributions from the public, philanthropic and private sectors to provide vital funding for community groups and organisations to meet the rising demand for their services. Their work is key to tackling loneliness, reducing health inequalities and improving health outcomes. The report was developed with the support of more than 100 organisations, including charities, NHS bodies and funders.
