“Reduce Our Risk. Maximize Our Advantage.” That is the call of the FBI’s Five-Year Intelligence Program Strategy recently announced by Director Wray at an Intelligence and National Security Alliance event. The strategy reflects input from more than 2,000 personnel across job roles, locations, and levels. It identifies technology, training, and tradecraft as the levers to address a shifting external operating environment and maximize the FBI’s unique workforce, authorities, and capabilities as both a law enforcement and intelligence agency. Congrats to all of our team members celebrating milestone anniversaries! Ten years? What? It seems like I just started my career with JM Search. And though it seems like the blink of an eye, a lot has happened over these years. Some things have changed. Some haven't. 2013: 36 people. 2023: 206 people. 2013: Top 20 search firm. 2023: Top 5 search firm. 2013: Great culture. 2023: Same great culture. In many ways, even better! 2013: Client-focused. 2023: Client-focused, but with the addtional support of so many critical (and amazing) people behind the scenes, valuable process improvements, and helpful technology. 2013: Appreciation for those around me, as I was new to executive search and (thought I) knew what I was doing. 2023: The deepest appreciation for those around me, starting every day thrilled to be working with the most passionate, diverse, smart, driven, and supportive team. 2013: Enjoying what I do. 2023: Enjoying what I do. Looking forward to ten more years! And I'll try not to blink.
Congratulations to our team members who reached 1 year, 5 year, 10 year, and 15 year milestone anniversaries during the fourth quarter! At JM Search, our employees continue to shape the future of our culture and company, and we are incredibly proud of the team we are continuing to build to support our amazing clients. Board Member, CEO, and Advocate for Safety & Health | Guiding Intentional Dialogues, Aligning Strategies, and Executing High-Performance Plans
After a recent Board meeting, Stephen Schwartz and I took a Dialogue Miles™ walk in French Park, in Cincinnati OH. We walked about 5 miles and stopped by Steve’s childhood home where we climbed through the brush to get a glimpse of the backyard he played in as a kid. He described the joy of living in that neighborhood, from bottle rockets and sledding to running track. After the walk, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner with Steve and Felice at their home. About a decade ago Steve asked me to join the Board of LION, which has been a true honor. During this period I became exposed to countless examples of what a purpose-driven company can achieve. Lion’s Purpose is to ensure first responders and military personnel are ready for action. Their Mission: Each and every day we fulfill the personal safety, readiness, and identity needs of our customers worldwide. A few takeaways… - We should walk with business associates as CEOs to ponder and discuss ideas more often. - The act of walking and talking is a very different experience than just sitting across a table from someone. It can be easier to have more time to ponder and process thoughts while walking and talking which is very comfortable to me. - Steve and I are good thought partners because of our curiosity about what we observe or hear, and how we deliver our answers that are not threatening or condescending. It's so important to have thought partners in all phases of your life. - Knowing people in the office is a lot different than seeing a person through the lens of their life journey. - A great reward is when you know someone professionally and then you see their personal life. It is amazingly additive.

I help COOs & CROs of Global Financial Institutions reduce the cost of control by in excess of £1.5m annually through building and leading high-performing, commercially-focussed and courageous risk and control functions
I've recently been working with Johnny Walker to create a positioning statement to explain what I do. Difficult to narrow down when you've had a diverse career. But it boils down to this, everything we do either contributes to generating output (revenue), managing costs, or managing risk. In my earlier military career it was very much about all three. Latterly I've been mostly helping to manage risk, but possibly more importantly, I've always been about sensible and appropriate risk taking rather than over control. This has manifested in me helping to reduce the cost of control. So my first shot at a 5P (Person, Place, Purpose, Performance, Process) positioning statement is this: I help COOs & CROs of Global Financial Institutions reduce the cost of control by in excess of £1.5m annually through building and leading high-performing, commercially-focussed and courageous, risk and control functions. #5PFormula

I first encountered Flail when I was in the military. My first posting was to a relatively new unit that didn’t exist 3 years before I showed up. This unit showed all of the hallmarks of an environment that leads to flail, and many of the human costs were present showing that flail had been there for a while. While any major organizational change could potentially lead to flail, it doesn’t always show up and recognizing that it’s there is the first step in the art of managing flail. To risk spoiling the rest of my article, my five steps towards flail management are building a clear and comprehensive problem statement with corresponding strategic vision, empowering people managers to solve people problems, encouraging collaboration while respecting boundaries, building in stress relief, and counter-intuitively, minimizing change to only tweak that which is necessary to attain the desired strategic outcome. Building 'Entitled' - Benefits for Low-Income Workers | Fintech | Ex-CEO - Grand Resource Factory | ISB
In 49 BC, Julius Caesar faced a critical decision. By leading his army across the Rubicon River, he committed an act of treason, effectively declaring war on Rome. This bold move marked a point of no return, burning all bridges behind him. #TimelessInsights - Insight 3 In business, "crossing the Rubicon" represents making a pivotal decision that will significantly impact the company's future. It could be investing heavily in a new product, entering an untested market, or making a transformative acquisition. Such decisions require careful consideration, as they often involve high stakes and irreversible consequences. However, they can also be necessary for growth and success. Just as Caesar's decision changed the course of history, a well-calculated business move can alter a company's trajectory. The key is to weigh the risks and potential rewards, commit fully once the decision is made, and navigate the challenges that follow with determination and adaptability.
