Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the TechTalk Summit on "The Human Element of AI: Building a Skilled Workforce for Generative AI", with my esteemed colleagues, Heather Dawe and Leslie Schultz -on a topic that resonates deeply with the current landscape of AI and workforce development. 🔍 Focused Insights: 1. Skill Development in AI: We discussed the skills necessary for thriving in the AI field - including but not limited to Programming (Python, Pyspark/TF), EDA, Algorithms and data structures, machine learning and deep learning, statistics and probability, Data visualization, NLP, Computer vision, Reinforcement learning, Ethical and responsible AI practices, Problem-solving and critical thinking, Cloud computing and big data technologies etc -and also on how UST nurtures these skills, emphasizing the balance between AI development and application, and the importance of understanding AI's ethical and societal impacts. 2. AI Training Integration: Integrating AI into our professional mindset and skill set is crucial. I shared insights on effective strategies for this, including hands-on approaches to learning and the necessity of design thinking in problem-solving. 3. Human and AI Collaboration: We explored the dynamic between human creativity and AI technology, and experiences in blending these two for innovative solutions. 4. Promoting Continuous Learning: Stressing the importance of an evolving learning culture, we spoke about how businesses can foster environments that encourage learning, especially in a fast-changing field like AI. 5. Preparing for an AI-Driven Future: We touched upon strategies to ready the workforce for AI's growing influence, focusing on the importance of diverse skills and understanding AI's broader implications. 👁️ Real-Life Applications and Ethics: We also talked about real-world applications from UST's experience, focusing on practical aspects such as dealing with bias in AI and ensuring ethical use. This real-world focus grounded our discussion in practical, actionable terms. 💡 Technological and People Focus: The session wasn't just about AI's technological aspects; it also underscored the need for a skilled workforce ready to handle these advancements. In an era where AI talent is highly sought after, upskilling and continuous learning are essential. The fusion of human skills and AI technology is crucial for the future.
