In the past ten years of being involved in foster care, many friends have talked to me about wanting to adopt or foster, and feeling confused about the differences or how it all works. The reality is that a lot of people think about family building to support children who need a parent, but they never get around to doing it. However, fostering or adoption is not something that will just 'happen' - if you want to be that parent, you do need to figure out how to make it happen proactively 🤓 📝 This event with Coram and Now Foster is a good first step if you think you might want to foster or adopt one day, and will give you all the basic info to explore more in the future or talk to your family about it. Register here and share it with your partners, colleagues friends and other significant others who may want to learn more too: https://lnkd.in/eKzTC8tF
When we started talking to people about children in care, we encountered a lot of confusion about what fostering is like, how it differs from adoption, and the options that people have if they want to support a child who needs a family. We're working with Be My Family, part of Coram, to raise the profile about family building options through both fostering and adoption. Perhaps you have thought 'Yes, I'd like to do that some time' or maybe you haven't thought about it at all but you'd like to learn more! Join us at lunchtime, online, on the 27th of March to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eFGcJMbf If you are at the beginning of your journey, this is a good place to start! You'll learn about the intricacies of both options, how fostering and adoption support children who need more loving adults in their lives, and what it would take for you to be that person for a child as they grow up 🧡 What you can expect from the event: 1️⃣ - Lots of information about what children need and how it works 2️⃣ - No pressure to sign up to anything! 3️⃣ - An opportunity to ask any questions at the event 4️⃣ - The option to book a one-to-one follow-up conversation to talk about your personal circumstances. #Fostering #Adoption #FamilyBuilding #BeMyFamily #Coram #CommunitySupport

Adoption costs, including fees and expenses, can reach $40,000, posing financial barriers for many. Foster care adoption, while more accessible, also has costs and complexities. Today, we are featuring Adoption Hope Foundation and Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Let's provide support! 🥰🙌 https://lnkd.in/gD9MdQae

Foster care is meant to be a temporary solution that ends once a parent can get their life back on track or a relative, guardian or adoptive family agrees to raise the child involved. Let's talk about adoption vs. fostering! Despite common misconceptions, adoption and fostering are not the same. Adoption is about permanently expanding a family while fostering provides temporary care for children in need. While both are acts of love and compassion, understanding these differences is crucial in supporting children and families through their unique paths. #TheAdoptionPsychologist #FosterCare #Adoption
