Water seeping into adjacent building elements due to improper floor grading and inadequate waterproof membrane installation in key areas, such as around the floor waste, frequently results in building damage. To avoid these issues, architects, designers and specifiers need to have a thorough understanding of the changes to floor waste, floor grading and waterproofing requirements in the 2021 version of AS 3740 “Waterproofing of domestic wet areas” and the 2022 update of the National Construction Code. Check out this latest educational White Paper from Stormtech Grates and Drains that examines how the recent updates to the relevant standards and regulations impact wet area design and construction. Exterior Continuous Insulation is not only the way of the future, failing to use it in residential construction is a thing of the past. Build Better. Call us at (833) SIS-PANEL to learn more. #sispanels #continuousinsulation #energyefficiency
The August 24, 2024 Edition of Midwest Home knows what's up: "From a builder’s standpoint, insulation is top of mind... “It’s recommended by the International Code Council that we should have what’s called exterior continuous insulation (ECI),” which reduces the amount of energy and heat lost by a building. While ECI is already required in much of Canada and is common in commercial buildings throughout the United States, residential is up to bat." Our latest whitepaper, developed in conjunction with Architecture & Design (Australia), focuses on condensation in the building envelope. When moisture accumulates in this part of the building, it can lead to mould and the deterioration of materials. Beyond structural harm, these can lead to poor indoor air quality, posing health risks to occupants. It can also impact on the longevity of the structure. With NCC2025 likely to introduce more measures to control condensation, it remains an important and relevant topic. Download the whitepaper here: https://lnkd.in/gQ9k-_3j
Condensation remains a common problem that can lead to serious damage within building structures. When moisture accumulates in walls, roofs, or other assemblies, it can lead to mould, warping, and deterioration of materials. Beyond structural harm, condensation can also compromise indoor air quality, posing health risks to occupants. Download this whitepaper for a detailed look at the National Construction Code requirements for external wall construction for Class 2 buildings that will help prevent the accumulation of excessive internal moisture. https://ow.ly/wTlO50TGneV Siniat Australia #CondensationManagement #NCC2022 #MoistureControl #FacadeSystems #WeatherDefence #Siniat #SustainableBuilding #Architects #Designers #architecture

In 1996, the Clinton County Courthouse faced a major challenge as water was infiltrating its beautiful plaster dome. Traditional sealing methods had failed to provide a lasting solution. Sika Emseal's Horizontal Colorseal proved to be the ideal solution for this difficult problem, providing watertight protection for the dome for over 16 years. Thanks to Emseal's innovative technology, leak-chasing mops and buckets have been replaced by rakes and garden tools. Protect your structure with Sika Emseal's watertight solutions: https://lnkd.in/eZnuXY-M #expansionjoints #sealants #construction #constructionindustry #constructionproducts #constructionservices #buildings #buildingproducts #buildingowners #waterproofing #waterproofingsolutions #buildingenclosure #buildingenvelope #buildingconstruction #Sika #Emseal #architects #architecture #consultingengineers #propertymanagement #propertyowners #facilitiesmanagement

A previous inspection of a commercial building highlighted the impact of water on structures. A defect in the downpipe has led to significant erosion of the cobble joints and damage to the brickwork beneath the render. 🌧 Over time, this could result in structural movement due to the ground supporting the wall being washed away. Regularly check your rainwater systems: clear gutters, ensure proper slopes, and verify connections to below-ground drainage. #johnsonclark #newsletter #industryinsights #architecture #architects #design #designers #planning #RICS

It is impossible to overestimate the significance of effective water management over the lifespan of buildings. In busy commercial spaces, effective drainage solutions are essential to the efficient operation, curb appeal and health of the property. Still, not every space is the same, and a one-size-fits-all approach to drainage will not always be effective. In this new White Paper from Stormtech Grates and Drains, they examine how custom drainage systems can meet the challenges faced by today’s building projects to satisfy any unique requirements. This has to be a top tip for anyone who owns any sort of property, CHECK YOUR RAIN WATER GOOD!!! Make sure they are catching the rain coming off the roof, it’s making its way into the down pipes and at the bottom it’s going to a below ground system to be taken away from the buildings. Its a bit like marble run, if it’s not working, make a little change. We don’t want to see: 1. Staining on an external wall where water is going behind or overshooting a gutter (keep your water features in your garden) 2. Dropping joints in the gutter (don’t silicone the underside of the joint) 3. Any sort of plant in the gutter (it’s not a window box) 4. The photo is a good example of longterm surface discharge, get it away from the building. (If a below ground system isn’t an option then kicking it away with a shoe or a slate is a start) 5. Below ground systems need to be flowing (a good time to check if it overflows is in the rain) “Make hay while the sun shines, check gutters while it rains” (I added the second bit!)

Perimeter expansion joints around a building can be a tricky installation when trying to work with an extruded wing joint technology. Utilizing precompressed foam, like Horizontal Colorseal, can alleviate the anchoring and installation issues and allow for trouble-free, watertight solutions.
