3 not-so-obvious reasons to consider hiring a boutique firm rather than a large recruitment house for your next urgent and critical hire: 1) Focus/ attention- - -they can spend 30 minutes with potentially viable candidates painting a colorful picture of all that you/ your team/ your organization have to offer and vet out how those might align with what the candidate is looking for. This, in comparison to an email with 10 Quality Engineer or Pre-Construction Manager opportunities and a note "let me know which one(s) you'd like to interview for." 2) The off limit list. Large recruitment firms work with many client companies and thus aren't able to recruit candidates who currently work for them. The impact to you is that stellar candidates from your direct competitors might not be making it to your inbox. 3) In many cases you have a seasoned recruiter advocating for you/ working with you each step along the way as opposed to a junior level recruiter/apprentice just out of school.

Recruiter: "So I've found someone perfect, but they're looking for 130. You're offering 115. So I shouldn't send them to you, right?" Hiring Manager: "Well... If they're really good, send them to me anyway." Recruiter: "Okay, so you can come up to 130 for the right person for this role?" Hiring Manager: "Hmmm.. Yeah if they're definitely the right person we could do that." Qualifying a job order never really ends. This example is one I'm sure you've seen dozens of variations of in your own experience recruiting. Top recruiters qualify from the moment that a company comes onto their radar, and keep doing it even when they're getting ready to make submittals. Don't just rely on what the job description says. Stay inquisitive. Figure out what your clients & candidates really want & what they're really willing to accept. It's often not exactly what they said at first. That's the value that true hiring leaders can bring to the table. And it's a key part of how top recruiters are billing in the millions.

I’ve seen a few posts lately that said skip the applications, skip the recruiter and go straight for the Hiring Manager. In my 12 years as a recruiter, I honestly can’t think of one candidate that got hired that way. Recruiting processes do NOT match a typical sales process. Recruiting is compliance heavy at the beginning on the process. Just apply for the role. That is the best way to get your resume seen. Once you’ve done that, go ahead and DM the recruiter or hiring manager. But make your message stands out. Showcase your relevant skills and what impact they’ll have. But don’t ignore the most important step of the recruiting process. #recruiting #jobseekers #interviewtips

When writing your resume... don't assume that everyone knows what your company does. There are hundreds of thousands of companies out there. It's important to include some background info about what the company does. Make sure to include a short blurb explaining who they are and what they do. If they're in a specific/niche industry it's even better to include that because that could be the reason a recruiter/hiring manager reaches out to you or requests an interview! For example, for my role at Starts Align, I might write the following: Founder & CEO - Starts Align Starts Align is a staffing services agency specializing in direct placements and executive retained search. It's also a women-owned small business (WOSB) providing services as a government contractor.
