Exploring innovative teaching methods like block teaching can be a game-changer in higher education. In many universities, including Lynn University in Miami, block teaching has had the most significant impact by incorporating simple changes in day-to-day activities. Instead of juggling multiple subjects simultaneously, block teaching focuses on one subject at a time over shorter, intense periods, building deeper engagement and better outcomes. This approach allows students to predictably structure their days, making it easier to manage commitments outside of class. It also helps them avoid the constant context-switching and the mental strain that comes from juggling multiple subjects. At On Point Education Advisory, we believe in staying ahead of educational trends to provide our students with the best learning opportunities. Block teaching is reshaping university pedagogy and offering a glimpse into what's possible where students truly become the centre of educational strategies. #blockteaching #students #education #unicersity #innovation

Thank you #BarrFoundation for articulating this powerful, student-centered strategy to achieve school transformation. If your reform, improvement, or justice-seeking efforts in secondary education are NOT centering student voice, I just don't think you can get there from here. If we want students to collaborate with us, we gotta collaborate with them, seek their insight, gain their trust, and work together. At issue isn't whether students can rise to the challenge; it's we adults who need to step up and partner with kids like we mean it. A good example here: https://lnkd.in/daxyXWmt.
When students and adults work together to co-create excellent, equitable high school experiences, students are better able to reach their goals. In this blog, Education Program Officer Alison Gross describes how Barr grantees are leading efforts to position student experiences, perspectives, and ideas as a north star for decision-making.

One major mistake we make as humans is quantifying academic education received within the four walls of classrooms as the sole measure of being educated or learned. You see, that street wisdom (OT), that guidance from uncles and aunties who correct you when you’re wrong, but you always think they are inconsequential because they are not your relatives are going to count for you as lessons later in life! That home training that many of you have neglected from your parents, and you have decided to go the way of the uncultured children, is actually the best form of education because it transcends generations. Can you transfer your academic certificate to your children later in life? 🤷🏽♀️ Iree o! IDEASwithMrWood💡 #MindetIsEverything

Whenever I walked to one of my schools, nestled in a lush green valley and surrounded by beautiful mountains, I often witnessed this scene of the headmaster yelling at the students, "They know nothing! All they do is play!" It made me wonder: What is the function of education, as imagined by teachers? - Is it to become academically proficient? - Is it to suppress joy and innocence? - Is it to immerse students in textbooks, aiming for a bright future through academic excellence? We frequently discuss bringing qualitative changes to the educational landscape, but my experiences in schools have shown me that the meaning of "quality education" isn't standardized. We need to rethink its basic connotation at all stakeholder levels. While working on the School Development Plan with the headmasters, teachers, and community, I realized a stark truth: the purpose education serves for me isn't the same for everyone. For some, quality education means excellent infrastructural facilities, while for others, it's about building a strong community of parents. As we advocate for 'quality education,' it is essential to sit back, reflect, and delve deeper into understanding its true meaning. This should be one of the guiding principles for all educational practitioners to bring about school transformation. Educating growing minds is a multifaceted challenge. What complexities have you encountered in your journey to nurture young learners? #qualityeducation #gandhifellowship #education

For better or worse (depends on who you ask), I’ve been known to turn an easy task into something big and much tougher to accomplish. So in trying to change the way schools approach life science education, I have tried to work on some root causes of our collective struggles, and support teachers. It’s core to the BioBuilder Educational Foundation’s mission that teachers reconnect to their own love of teaching and learning. And maybe that’s not the first thing people think about when they think about transforming schools, but if you ask around, most people can point to a great teacher in their past who positively influenced their lives. Keeping great teachers teaching seems essential for great education (not for nothin' with 50,000 teaching vacancies across the country, the data says we have some work to do). So thank you for the deep dive conversation on the Shah Family Foundation Podcast that asked, “is it time to modernize the teaching profession?” https://lnkd.in/efdyP3Xg WOW – there are so many ambitious ideas and ways to rethink the 1 teacher, 1 class model. How much more “root cause” do you get than to say, “it’s not a retention issue, it’s a workforce design problem”? But I’ll add one thought: if you put a great teacher (or team of teachers) in front of students who are unengaged day after day and who see no connection of their classwork to their future, you will break, not build, that teacher’s spirit. So if I was asked for my “yes, and…” to this awesome conversation (again, please do listen to it!), I’d add that we have to invite more innovative curriculum into our schools. The curriculum should be worthy of the greatest teachers, and we’ll know it’s working if schools become meaningful and engaging to the students, i.e. better prepares them for lives they want and jobs that society needs. Like I said at the top, though, not an easy task…. TNTP ASU Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s College Preschool Ross Wilson @Jill Shah Tequilla Brownie, Ed.D.
