I love working with local government to help facilitate gender equality. Here are some things I’ve learned. - It is a privilege to be invited into this space, and I take the role very seriously; it’s one that comes with a high level of trust and accountability as well as an opportunity to be part of long-term change - Like many others, I have been banging on for what feels like a decade about the importance of Councils applying an intersectional gender lens to their work including the Council Plan and it's super exciting to start seeing this work take place. - ‘Creating gender equality’ is not any one person’s job, and the stakes are too high for this work to sit on any one person’s (or one team’s) shoulders. - There are many more conversations about the equitable distribution of power, resources and opportunities to come and they won't necessarily be easy. Change is happening. It might be slower than we’d like, but it’s definitely happening. And that’s what makes this work so exciting, but also important.
This is one of the most strategic things local councils in Victoria can do to create intersectional gender equality. 📝 Complete a #GenderImpactAssessment on your Community Vision. Last week, we were thrilled to welcome over 130 participants at a Municipal Association of Victoria session on ‘GIAs in Council Planning + Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plans’. What this tells us is that Councils are well aware there is work to be done here, and that they are committed to making the investment they know is needed. What isn't always clear though is *how* to do this. Each Council is unique, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Some important things to consider: 🔸 Intersectional and gender disaggregated data, and the privacy/storage of this data 🔸Creating a ‘responsibility’ or ‘accountability framework’ to support the roll out of the work 🔸Working with subject matter experts to not only deliver on the GIA recommendations but also role model gender equitable and inclusive practice 🔸How you can support and better equip the skilled and passionate officers conducting GIAs at the Council-level A big thank you to #MAV, and in particular Kellie Nagle and Bonnie Coogan for inviting us to host this important session. The leadership you have shown in this space for more than a decade has been fundamental in progressing intersectional gender equality, far beyond the Victorian Local Government sector. If you would like more information about how to conduct a GIA in your council, please get in touch.

I'm excited to share my design assignment for the Principles of Information Design class! 🎨 We were asked to take an existing infographic and redesign it to make it clearer and more effective. For my project, I chose to work on an infographic about Gender Equality in Africa. The original design had issues like too much text and a confusing layout, which made it hard to understand the important points. I focused on improving the design by using simpler visuals, better spacing, and clear colors to highlight the key facts. What I Improved: - Made the design easier to read with simple and clear visuals. - Highlighted important statistics so the message stands out. - Simplified the overall design to make it easy to understand at a glance. I’d love to hear your thoughts on my redesign! How do you think good design can help communicate important social issues like gender equality? #Linkedin #Design #Infograph

Verizon and it’s many leaders like Iris Meijer embrace accurate portrayal and authentic representation knowing that it drives business growth. Put this power to work for your business to drive consumer engagement, connectivity and loyalty. SEEHER and the GEM Suite of Tools are proven in driving sales lift. Take the Pledge to Embed to drive your business goals.
Representation is power. I was lucky to grow up in Finland, which has a long history of championing gender equality: it was the first country in the world to give all women and all men both the right to vote and the right to run for office. But you can never take gender equality for granted, and, even in Finland, there’s more work to be done. Entering the world of media and marketing, I realised how powerful media is in shaping how we see the world around us, how it impacts what we think, what we believe and who we are as a society. Our view of the world is shaped by what we’re exposed to. That’s why I represented the Unstereotype Alliance in Europe, also speaking to Finnish marketing leaders in 2019 about eradicating harmful stereotypes in all media and advertising content. And today, that’s why I’m very proud to represent SEEHER, and to sign the SeeHer Pledge to Embed: as marketers and media creators, we have a responsibility to hold ourselves accountable for what we create, and to create change through representation. Not a big sharer on here typically, but happy to have finished and to share this short report, which provides a framework for Fostering #GenderEquality in the Workplace! The report touches on diversity inclusion in leadership positions as well (including minorities along all lines of gender, race, and sexual orientation). This little briefer comes in advance of new legislation that will come into effect in July 2026, requiring all large, publicly-listed companies in the EU to meet new quotas for the percentage of #women holding directorship roles. Getting to 40% could be hard, so now might be a wild time to hire a gender equality specialist! 💫 Kudos to all the organizations already making strides in this area - it's been fun to work with some of you! Honorable mentions inside: Iceland, Sweden, and Norway! (Keep it up! We're all watching you! 😉) Unilever, Siemens, Booking.com, SAP, United Nations, European Commission, European Institute for Gender Equality, European Women's Lobby... #womenempoweringwomen #womeninleadership #womenintech #NGOleadership #womeninbusiness #ngoimpact #changemakers #challenge #genderpaygap #minorities #lgbtqia #lgbtqinclusion

GENDER EQUALITY ON THE MEDIA SPACE Gender bias on social media is pervasive, influencing followers, likes, and engagement. Studies reveal disparities in how content from different genders is perceived and valued. Women often face disproportionate scrutiny, receiving more criticism and fewer likes compared to men for similar content. Algorithms may also amplify biases, favoring certain gendered posts over others. This bias can affect not only visibility but also opportunities for collaboration and monetization. Addressing gender bias requires a collective effort from users, platforms, and policymakers to promote fairness, inclusivity, and equal opportunities for all genders in the digital space.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending my first workshop on gender equality in business, hosted by Advance – Gender Equality in Business and sheboss-Führungsseminare von Frauen für Frauen. Marion Knaths led the session on navigating successfully in male-dominated environments, and I was blown away by what I learned. The exercises and peer feedback were especially helpful. We delved into real-life examples of how to navigate hierarchies and power dynamics. Sadly, this is still prevalent in most workplaces. It's essential to acknowledge that there's also a hierarchy between peers. My biggest takeaway was learning how to improve my posture and gestures when presenting. I tend to wave my arms around a lot, but I can improve my presence by standing still and folding my hands in front of me. 😊 A huge thanks to Marion for sharing her insights, and to SIX for nominating me to participate. I hope more female colleagues will have the opportunity to join such events in the future! 😎 #WeAreSix #diversity #advanced #sheboss
