Since its inspection in April 2023, the BRAVE1 Defense Technology Cluster has allocated $3,045,000 for developers creating defense innovations. The cluster has distributed a total of 173 grants, according to Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation. BRAVE1 was launched in April 2023 with the goal to accelerate the development of technologies that would help on the battlefield against russian occupiers. Anyone can join the cluster, regardless of whether there is only an idea or a developed prototype. BRAVE1 accompanies developers at all stages, from application to codification according to NATO standards and contracting. For 2024, BRAVE1 has allocated UAH 1.5 billion for grants, while the number of grants has increased to 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, and 200,000 dollars. Strategist | Futurist | Innovator | Advisor | Veteran - I help Defence and Defence Industry deliver capability faster, with less risk and at lower cost.
Yes, but... I couldn't agree more that we need to get cutting edge technologies into the hands of the warfighter as fast as possible. However, we should not do that at the expense of pursuing long-term technology advances to equip our forces in the future. A common thread in many discussions of Defence capability is the need for improved understanding of requirements to which, Defence scientists and Defence Industry can apply their considerable skills. The challenges are to articulate those requirements and to do so with enough lead time so the resulting technology can be developed and delivered. I recently travelled overseas as part of my Master's to compare and contrast the policy settings and Defence Industry response in two other nations. In both cases, the countries were experiencing immediate and existential threats and had been for many years. Both, had well developed innovation and development pathways to get technology to the frontline. However, their long-term future capability development had suffered neglect and was an increasing risk. The conflict of tomorrow will be fought with the capability we can deliver today, while the conflicts of the future will be fought with capabilities that we can conceive. #defenceindustry #defencecapability #futuresanalysis #foresighting #dstg #innovation #strategicplanning
'For chief defence scientist Tanya Monro, the concept of ‘minimum viable capability’ is critical to shifting Australia’s thinking on how to get cutting edge technologies into the hands of military personnel fast enough to give them an advantage on the battlefield', writes Brendan Nicholson.
