If your business or organization is located in one of these 30 regions, you should give serious consideration to investing in hyperlocal weather monitoring. KEY INSIGHT: A "2020 Weather Service report acknowledged regions where the closest radar can’t scan below 6,000 feet — potentially missing tornadoes, heavy rain and other hazardous weather at lower altitudes." How bad is it? One meteorologist "has identified more than 30 populated regions affected by low-level radar gaps."

I came across an intriguing video on The Weather Channel featuring NOAA and the National Severe Storms Laboratory highlighting the Warn-on-Forecast System (WoFS). Technicians successfully modeled recent tornado activity in Central Iowa, well in advance. Impressive work! Link to video: https://lnkd.in/euQXNi7A Find out more here:https://lnkd.in/eJBSY-RA Reflecting on a past Hazus hurricane modeling course, I considered the application of similar software like Hurrivac with live weather data and Doppler radar feeds to predict tornado paths accurately. Technology has indeed come a long way in the last decade – turning what was once a possibility into a reality! Anticipating tornadoes and predicting their path demands robust computing power and skilled forecasting. The potential to reduce casualties is immense for emergency managers and citizens alike. I'm looking forward to hearing of more successful applications of WoFS and the impactful work from @NOAANSSL.

To my fellow #EmergencyManagers, which tools do you employ for monitoring weather events and other natural occurrences? A couple of months ago, I was introduced to a program called Ventusky. It offers a variety of different tools for monitoring weather, observing predictions, and getting in-depth details on incoming storms, weather systems, and natural occurrences like air quality and ocean conditions. Would love to learn what tools you have accessible in your #EM toolbox!
