Pedestrian crowds can flow like a fluid. A study proposes a dimensionless number, similar to those used in fluid mechanics, to characterize how people move without colliding or intruding on one another’s personal space. In PNAS Nexus: https://ow.ly/snyj50R4qlc

How will quantum drive bring the next-gen of space propulsion? It starts with a shifting from pushing away a great mass via chemical rocket to altering the state around a mass. To do that an object must create a stronger pressure point from its environment, #QuantumLevitation is one example of a lift effect, by running a super-cold magnetic vortex around an object, detaching it from its surroundings. Related conditions can be seen in nature, when the water has a greater pressure than the bubble, pushing the bulk of air upward into the surface. The Pelican Nebula (also known as IC 5070) is an H II region associated with the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus. The gaseous contortions of this emission nebula bear a resemblance to a pelican, giving it the name. The Pelican is much studied because it has an active mix of star formation and evolving gas clouds. The light from young energetic stars is slowly transforming cold gas to hot and causing an ionization front gradually to advance outward. Particularly dense filaments of cold gas. Image processing: Mike Selby Imaged in late 2017 on our remote CDK 17 telescope, at DSOC, Ft. Davis, Texas. SHO Hubble Palette RGB stars. Two black holes very close to each other. Nevertheless no merge expected for now. Good opportunity for the gravitational wave detector accuracy and calibration when it will occur.
