You've hired the wrong one...!
We've all done it, got recruitment wrong and made a bad hire - bad for the company and bad for the candidate...
So where does it go wrong...?
Imagine, someone wants to join the Parachute Regiment, the Royal Marines or SAS...
Do they send in a CV, do a ZOOM interview with Kevin in HR, and get asked about moving Mt Fuji, or what their No 1 weakness is...?
Of course not...
To join the elite forces you don't have to know how to shoot, march, fight, drive a tank or jump out of a plane...
They will teach these skills to candidates with the right attitude, grit, fitness and determination...
In business the opposite is too often true...
People get hired because they have qualifications, experience or certification...
They wear the same suit as everyone else, have executive hair and weak handshakes...
And if they have pink hair, piercings or tattoos, they don't get past first cut...
No one worries about attitude, personality, work ethic or fitness to carry out the role...
I built a recruitment business in the UK, and making sure people had the best attitude and fit for the role was key to our success, and theirs...
How did we do this...?
1. Build in a couple of Brown M&M clauses...
2. Check response times and timekeeping...
3. Courtesy to receptionist and taxi driver...
4. Check pressure responses...
5. Add a couple of hurdles and see if they jump or go round...
Better for the candidate, the client and our success rates...
Ask me how for more details...
Of course, it depends on the role and yes if it's a driving job they'll need a licence...😀
Everyone says hire on attitude, but in reality they hire on a dodgy CV and Kevins' instinct instead...😀
PS - sorry to any Kevins' in HR...
