When workers feel disconnected from company goals, it’s like trying to assemble a puzzle without knowing the final picture. During my roles in manufacturing, I noticed something surprising: many workers on the shop floor didn’t fully understand the company’s goals. They were focused on their tasks but disconnected from the bigger picture. It’s not their fault—misalignment between leadership and the floor is a common challenge in manufacturing. Toyota addressed this through their lean manufacturing system, which emphasizes empowering workers to actively contribute to company goals. At Toyota, workers are trained not only to perform their roles but to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements. They’re encouraged to stop the production line to fix problems in real time—a practice called “jidoka.” This culture of involvement fosters accountability, reduces waste, and ensures that every team member understands how their work impacts the broader objectives. For the past two weeks, I’ve stepped into the shoes of a 360-degree leader at our manufacturing plant. This hands-on experience has been nothing short of transformational. Here's what I’ve been doing: ✅ Purchasing Materials from vendors and ensuring timely delivery to keep the production wheel turning. ✅ Supplying Finished Products to our buyers with precision and on schedule. ✅ Overseeing Manufacturing Operations to produce high-quality plastic components. ✅ Resolving Challenges—every issue is an opportunity to learn and adapt. ✅ Employee Management—guiding the team, resolving concerns, and keeping morale high. ✅ Daily Work Allocation—ensuring every team member knows their tasks and timelines. 🔧 Takeaway: Being immersed in every aspect of the process—from procurement to production to delivery—has deepened my appreciation for teamwork, planning, and adaptability. **Turning Challenges into Success** One year ago, we completed the successful installation, commissioning and startup of the BOBST FFG machine, a key milestone in our operations. Leading this project, I was responsible for overseeing the entire process from planning to execution. It was not without challenges. Technical issues, tight deadlines and coordinating multiple teams but by staying hands-on and focused, we were able to solve problems efficiently & get the machine up smoothly. This achievement is a testament to what strong teamwork and proactive leadership can accomplish. The Machine is well contributing to our production goals and setting a solid foundation for future growth. Looking back, I am proud of what we have accomplished together and it reminds me of the importance of staying focused & resilient when it counts. "Never Give Up: Lessons from the Production Line" In the world of manufacturing, every day presents new challenges. Early in my career as a production engineer, I faced a major issue—our production volume was significantly below targets due to a critical bottleneck in the assembly line. We tried quick fixes, but nothing seemed to work. Frustration began to grow, and I could sense the pressure on the entire team. But instead of giving up, I took it as an opportunity to dive deeper. I spent days observing the process, analyzing every detail, and collaborating with operators. We implemented a series of small but significant improvements: from layout changes to smarter machine utilization. Slowly, the results started to show. Over time, we not only met our targets but exceeded them, increasing production efficiency by 15%. The experience taught me a valuable lesson: progress isn’t always immediate. It’s about persistence, learning from mistakes, and continuing to push forward, no matter how difficult the path may seem. In every setback, there’s an opportunity to grow.
