What advice would you give to early-career scientists? Dr. Mario Calus, one of our esteemed speakers at AGBT Ag, offers his thoughts: "Try to be as open as possible and listen to what others have to say. Engage with what is out there. If you have a question, just ask. But also be critical and reflect on what is being said. Don’t just adopt all ideas that are being put forward—I think that’s very important." Benign cascade extrative biorefinery for converting agri-food side streams into high-value polyphenolic bioactives and functional fibres for pharma, cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals and food products.
Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche-ISPA has taken another step forward in the PHENOLEXA Project by carrying out cell line cultures. This complex process involves growing cells under controlled conditions, allowing researchers to observe how cells respond to #bioactive #extracts. By providing a stable environment, cell line cultures allow precise monitoring of cell growth, behaviour and response to potential bioactive compounds. This method is crucial for assessing the efficacy and safety of compounds intended for health-related applications, and offers a clear path to reaching the new potentials of biowaste for innovative health solutions. #H2020 #CBE_JU Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU)

The UK Biobank Research Analysis Platform (RAP), powered by DNAnexus, is a prime example of the impact that collaborative biomedical research can have at scale. Today, the UKB RAP incorporates over 31 petabytes of genetic and health data, and over 60 publications have been generated as a direct result of research on the platform. UKB RAP makes the world’s most comprehensive biomedical database accessible to over 6,600 approved researchers worldwide by providing a secure, controlled environment that houses data and analysis tools together. Health centers can model the success of UKB RAP by leveraging Trusted Research Environments (TREs) on DNAnexus. TREs offer a seamless experience for research partners, providing access to specific data sets and analysis tools while always maintaining careful oversight by the data steward. Update for #TeamWapo
**Update on Wapo** Wapo was weaned on August 26th, weighing in at 93 kg (205 pounds), and has now moved on to phase 2 of the experiment. He’s graduated from the calf house to his own individual pen. At just 66 days old, Wapo is already using the GreenFeed, drawn in by the Calf Starter offered as bait feed. As part of the Long-Term treatment group, Wapo began receiving the additive with his feed post-weaning and will continue throughout the experiment. His current consumption is 3.5 kg per day, and he now weighs 104 kg (229 pounds). Excitingly, we’re already observing lower methane emissions from Wapo compared to others not receiving the treatment. Meanwhile, his buddy Sushi—the star of a recent Washington Post article—has also been weaned and is showing reduced emissions after stopping the additive given during his calf stage (as part of a treatment plan different from Wapo). As always huge thanks to Paulo de Meo Filho Robin Malik and the rest of the team for continuing to do excellent job and the whole Innovative Genomics Institute team associated with TED Audacious project. We could not do this without the support from generous donors to TED Audacious project.

Exciting updates Ermias!! This study is going to provide critical data and understanding of the evolution of the calf rumen microbiome and what early-stage interventions can accomplish with regards to methane emissions reduction while maintaining or improving productivity. Go IGI team on showing the power of a UC Berkeley and UC Davis partnership!

Curated data are the pillars of biological knowledge... yet they are so fragile. Therefore we badly need mechanisms to secure long term funding for all research infrastructures but especially for knowledge bases.
