The ongoing staffing crisis in senior care is a major concern. While efforts are being made to address this issue, there's a risk that the current approach may not be feasible for all facilities. Many nursing homes have been struggling to hire enough staff, which is particularly challenging for rural facilities with limited candidate pools. These facilities could face penalties for not meeting staffing requirements. To tackle this problem effectively, senior care needs to be a more appealing career choice for healthcare professionals. We need a "New Deal" plan to improve healthcare workforce! Adding more staff in key clinical areas would undoubtedly improve quality in nursing homes. Supporters of the Biden Administration minimum staffing proposal are ignoring the facts and advancing an irresponsible policy. Setting unrealistic objectives and laying blame won't solve the problem.
