Happy #environmentalservices Week to all of the amazing EVS leaders, educators and technicians who work so diligently & passionately to protect our patients, residents & fellow healthcare professionals each and every day. During #EVS Week, I challenge all healthcare workers to make a concerted effort to recognize the work of an EVS colleague. Often times, EVS professionals can be overlooked in healthcare facilities, despite being the undeniable backbone of #infectionprevention & #patientsafety. In a 2016 survey published in ICHE (Berstein et al), over half of EVS respondents reported that physicians and nurses never or sometimes show appreciation for their work. In fact, this is one of very few studies examining EVS experiences, highlighting a disparity in academic research that needs to be addressed. My role at Diversey has awarded me the honor of working side-by-side EVS professionals in a way I never experienced as a frontline IP. I see the transformative impact EVS workers can have on #patientexperience & satisfaction. I have witnessed the profound compassion & connection that EVS professionals develop with patients, family & visitors that often goes overlooked & underappreciated. This week, please celebrate your EVS department and remind one another that cleaning & disinfection is EVERYONE'S shared responsibility!
