Are you hysterical? Or are your health concerns routinely dismissed & ignored? Medical gaslighting occurs when healthcare professionals dismiss or trivialize a patient's symptoms, often leading to misdiagnosis or delayed treatment. Women, in particular, are disproportionately affected by this issue. Studies show that compared to men, women experience significantly longer wait times for diagnoses of critical conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Additionally, women are less likely to receive aggressive treatment for traumatic brain injuries and are often under-prescribed pain medications. This disparity not only underscores the prevalence of implicit biases in medical treatment but also highlights the urgent need for systemic changes within healthcare practices to ensure equitable and empathetic treatment for all patients.
