Clinicians are the foundation for success in the Best Hospitals U.S. News rankings. This is an exciting time for hospitals, and it means so much to the organizations and the individual clinicians. The top 50 rehab hospitals deserve a big congratulations! Therapists have a direct impact on many of the evaluation criteria. This is how I would drive change in my organization if I were a young clinician in this setting: 1) Develop your clinical skills - seek feedback and mentorship from senior staff. Evaluate what they are telling you against evidence-based resources. 2) Seek feedback from physicians and case management - learn how you can facilitate home discharges. Strong communication of your goals is vital for success. You often have limited time to advocate for your patient in team meetings. Communicate time-sensitive changes outside of weekly team meetings if needed. 3) Learn about medical devices and equipment - every hospital has a therapist who knows all possible equipment options. Find this person and ask them about difficult discharges. You never know how a unique piece of equipment could change the discharge plan and reduce caregiver burden. If your hospital doesn't have this champion, try to become one. Contact home modification organizations or assistive technology professionals in your network to learn more. Did I forget anything?

In Western countries, there are very big challenges as the number of surgeries increases and the waiting times are prolonged. The condition of surgery patients is weaker than ever before, at worst they have had to wait for their surgery for 3 years. It is almost necessary to move from managing the waiting lists to thinking about the list as a preparation management list. Without digitalization, however, there is no way to do this. Gary Birks wrote an excellent blog post on the subject. Please read from the link. #buddyhealthcare #surgery #digitalization #digitalhealthcare #healthcaretransformation

🔍 Innovative Patient-Centric Care: Heart Team Conferences with Patient Presence ❤️ Imagine a world where those facing complex heart decisions aren't just patients, but valued partners 🤝 in their own care. It's time to break down the walls of the traditional Heart Team Conference and invite the patient into the room. 🏥 Why? Because it's about more than medical expertise – it's about understanding the person behind the diagnosis. 🩺 1️⃣ Decisions Made Together: By combining clinical guidelines with the patient's unique story, we create care plans that truly fit their life. 📝 This isn't just empowerment; it's giving patients the knowledge they need to take charge of their health. 💪 2️⃣ A Team United: Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Interventional Cardiologists – all coming together, all focused on one person. 🙌 This eliminates fragmented care, ensuring every aspect of the patient's well-being is addressed with a unified, compassionate approach. 💖 3️⃣ Beyond the Guidelines: Guidelines are essential, but they can't capture the nuances of an individual's life. By listening to their experiences, preferences, and values, we craft treatments that respect their journey and goals. 🛣️ 4️⃣ Healthier Hearts, Happier Lives: Shared decision-making leads to higher patient satisfaction, better treatment adherence, and ultimately, improved outcomes. 😊 It's about building trust, transparency, and a partnership that extends far beyond the conference room. 🤝 Let's Make This Happen: Let's champion this innovative approach that places the patient's voice at the heart of every decision. ❤️ By integrating patients into Heart Team Conferences, we're not just transforming cardiac care – we're creating a model for truly patient-centered healthcare. 🌍 Join the movement and share this post! Let's advocate for a future where patients are not just recipients of care, but active participants in shaping their own health journeys. 📢 #HeartTeamConference #PatientCenteredCare #HealthcareInnovation #MultidisciplinaryCare #SharedDecisionMaking #Jyokti #PatientEmpowerment Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute 🫀 Baptist Health South Florida 🏥

Fasting vs Non-Fasting Status: It’s Time to End the NPO Order for Most Patients "The evolution of cardiac cath lab techniques, contrast media, and type of conscious sedation with dedicated nurse monitoring have made the procedure much safer, and the incidence of vomiting and need for intubation a rarity," writes Morton J. Kern, MD, FACC, FAHA. "The elimination of the NPO order would provide better patient hydration and euvolemia." Read more: https://okt.to/y6HwuF

#ACC24 kicks off this week. One of the biggest changes compared to previous years will be the conference's increased focus on the business side of patient care. While ACC's meetings have historically had a clinical focus on how to best care for patients, the group recognizes the elephant in the room—how to pay for that care—can no longer be ignored. Cost-effective, comprehensive image management solutions can streamline costs and alleviate financial burdens, allowing Cardiologists to focus on what really matters - their patients.
