You are designed to honor the dignity of humanity. Beyond this, you are to honor some special people because of the roles that they play in your life. Honor will never be forgotten. Honor never forgets. Honor has sound memories and sound judgment. Honor attracts honor. Honor attracts favor. Honor attracts blessings. How can we love with honor? Honor implies a vivid awareness and appreciation of personal dignity and individual worth. It is a reputation not only with others, but with yourself and your own standards. Inazo Nitobe calls it “the immortal part of one’s self.” The Japanese word for “honor” is meiyo: 名誉. Mei 名, represents the concept of a name or reputation. Yo 誉, has top do with the concepts of honor, glory, and esteem. Together, 名誉 (meiyo) combines one’s name and reputation alongside their word or virtue. In English, Honor derives from the Anglo-French word onur (c 1200) which meant “glory, renown, fame earned.” This in turn comes from the Latin honus, honorus or honorem which referred to “dignity or office” and most importantly, reputation. ________________

When I first saw Avatar 15 years ago (yes 15 years ago), I was struck by the choice the writer's made to highlight the idea of honor being found in the phrase "I see you." Since that time, I have always thought of honor in this way. But when we start thinking about honoring ourselves, do we look at it the same way? Are we asking ourselves what we need? Are we seeing ourselves? Honor feels like a big word sometimes, but it's crucial that we honor ourselves in both the big and small ways so that we can in turn honor others. Favour qualifies the unqualified After church service today I listened to a message about favor by Apostle Joshua Selman and one statement struck me. Contrary to popular belief, "Favour is actually merited". We are told to believe that whatever happens to a successful person is due to some luck but we are ignorant of the principles required to make it possible. One important principle is "Honour" Do you honor people around you irrespective of their status? One way to honor is through gratitude, learning to appreciate whatever impact/help has been made by anyone. There is no magic to these things, learn to practice honor. There are people in this space who have helped you grow to the point you are today, go back to appreciate them with gifts if you can. Honor God. Honor your parents. Honor your friends. Honor your mentors. Honor those above and below you. Honor your spouses too. I don't intend to make this a sermon but I hope you get the gist. The day after Memorial Day, I sit here thinking about the impact of past relationships and the memories we hold of them. Memorial Day exists to honor and remember those who have served our country and each of us, giving up their own lives. Memories get formed through our experiences and the emotions we had during them. They get stored in our minds and bodies. Then those memories pop up seemingly out of nowhere. And we have a holiday that brings those memories to the forefront. Sometimes they feel good, others not so good. What if holding onto the memory is keeping you and that relationship stuck in a pattern loop? A loop of recalling the past, whether the memory is joyful or painful. Today, I sit here sitting with, experimenting with, and embracing the notion of replacing memories with love. Love for the person, their lives, and their legacies. I sit here realizing the memories I keep of past relationships is not about them, but about me. It is time for me to release the memories about them and simply love each person who has touched my life one way or another instead.
