On this #WorldChildrensDay2024, under the theme#ListenToTheFuture, we must confront the uncomfortable truth about our justice system and its impact on children. Are we truly listening to the future when we allow a system to perpetuate cycles of trauma and hardship? The incarceration of mothers—often for acts of survival or self-defence against relentless abuse—raises critical questions about our commitment to the best interests of the child. Each time a mother is taken away, we are not just severing a vital bond; we are sentencing her children to a future marked by stigma, instability, and emotional turmoil. As we advocate for a world that listens to children and prioritises their well-being, we must confront the systemic flaws that perpetuate their suffering. We must stand together to demand justice that is not only equitable but also sensitive to the realities faced by families. Let us be the voices for those who cannot speak, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances. On this #WorldChildrensDay2024, let us commit to actively listening to the future—because their voices today will shape the world we all share tomorrow. A thought-provoking article on this issue is available at this link: https://lnkd.in/dWTdKmkE Join us as we continue our fight for the protection of mothers and their children during and post-incarceration by donating to our cause: https://lnkd.in/d7Kq-AyG #Decrminisalisepettyoffences #listentothefuture #childrensrights #Worldchildrensday2024

Dear network, I am excited to share that I will be running a 10km race to support Women’s Aid, a charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse against women and children. Why This Cause Matters Domestic abuse remains a critical issue, affecting 1 in 4 women in their lifetime. Women’s Aid has been at the forefront of providing life-saving services for over 50 years, including: • Safe accommodation for those escaping abuse. • Confidential helplines offering advice and support. • Specialist services to help survivors rebuild their lives. • Awareness campaigns to educate communities. • Advocacy for stronger legal protections. How You Can Help Your support can make a significant impact. For instance, a £10 donation can connect a survivor to a support worker via Women’s Aid’s Live Chat service. If you would like to contribute or learn more, please visit my JustGiving page: https://lnkd.in/eV3y4SDu Thank you for your support in creating a safer future for women and children. #WomensAid #DomesticAbuseAwareness #SupportSurvivors #CharityRun #Empowerment

The holiday season can be a time of joy and togetherness, but for many, it can be a time of fear and isolation. Domestic violence cases typically rise during the holidays, with stressors like financial strain, family pressure, and substance abuse exacerbating tensions in households. In fact, studies show that incidents of domestic violence increase by 30% during the holiday season. If you are facing abuse, please reach out for help. Support is available and you're not alone. This season, let's come together to create a safer, more supportive environment for all. 📞💔 As we reflect on 2024, we must confront the tragic realities of gender-based violence abuse. This year, Bethesda House has experienced a staggering 63% increase in crisis calls to our 24/7 crisis line from the first 3 months of 2024 (January-March) to the past 3 months (July- September). These numbers are not just statistics; they represent urgent pleas for help from women, many of whom have young children in desperate need of support. Gender-based violence is far more prevalent than many people realize, and it affects our entire community. The recent tragic incident of intimate partner violence in Courtice highlights the deathly consequences of this crisis. Two women lost their lives at the hands of a man, leaving a toddler without his mother and grandmother. We can work to prevent these tragedies before it’s too late, but we need your help; by donating, volunteering your time, spreading the word about the free services we offer, and sharing our social media posts we can reach more people in our community who need our help. 💜 #BethesdaHouse #CrisisSupport #EndGenderBasedViolence #DonateNow #YouCanHelp
