Unlocking the True Worth of Volunteers: Rethinking Nonprofit Resource and Impact Strategies In a provocative episode of The Nonprofit Fix podcast, Peter York and I challenge listeners to reconsider the role of volunteerism in the nonprofit sector, asking if an overreliance on volunteers could be inadvertently stunting growth and impact. The discussion exposes how the use of volunteers can sometimes de-professionalize nonprofits, negatively affecting program quality, outcomes, and accountability. We boldly confront the "nonprofit starvation cycle," where organizations feel pressured to keep overhead costs low at the expense of investing in skilled staff and essential infrastructure. By suggesting that including the monetary value of volunteer hours in financial reporting could revolutionize how we perceive the true costs of sustaining volunteer-driven organizations, this episode pushes nonprofits to find the right balance and be more intentional about leveraging volunteers to break free from the cycle and deliver greater impact. #NonprofitStarvationCycle #VolunteerValue #OverheadCosts #NonprofitAccountability #SustainableImpact

Coach | Host of the Purpose & Profit Club™ Podcast + Program | Turning Stagnant Fundraising into Bold Donor Movements
The key to crushing your fundraising goals isn’t sending more emails, or posting more on social media, or even another event 👉 instead your nonprofit organization should focus on breaking down all of the formality and “best practices” of fundraising. Now, a lot of times when I tell my clients this, they get scared because they think this means they have to become uber-polarizing. 🔑 But it is not about being polarizing, it's about redefining what your values are and how you tell those stories, becoming a brave fundraiser, becoming a brave storyteller, and letting your guard down. Tune into this week’s episode of the podcast ⏩From Indifference to Magnetism: Shedding Formality to Fuel Funding and Engagement! You’ll learn how to overcome your fear of standing out to move out of the Zone of Indifference to create a campaign that not only meets, but surpasses your fundraising goals.

Founder | Trusted Leader in Audio Strategy & Production for Communications | Selectively Partnering with Top Nonprofits and Corporations to Achieve Strategic Objectives
I believe that nonprofits, government, and other cause-based organizations have untapped potential in using audio and video to drive meaningful impact. Over the past few years, I’ve felt a deepening connection to the work being done by nonprofits and government agencies—organizations that tirelessly serve communities, often without recognition. Through my work with the Marion County Public Health Department, the Indiana Department of Health, and the Burnt Out Network (to name a few), I’ve seen how storytelling, especially through audio and video, can amplify the voices of those doing the hard, necessary work of change. These experiences have inspired me to focus even more intentionally on creating spaces for these voices to be heard, fostering empathy, understanding, and action. To reflect this renewed focus, I’ve rebranded my business, formerly MyPodcast.Media, to AdvoCast. AdvoCast—named for ‘Advocacy’ and ‘Podcasts’—works closely with a select number of clients to amplify your mission, drive engagement, and inspire action. If you’re connected, either directly or indirectly, to a nonprofit, government organization, or any cause-based initiative, I encourage you to reach out or share this message. AdvoCast is here to support you in sharing your story and driving meaningful impact. #Storytelling #CauseBasedWork #Impact #PodcastingForGood #nonprofit #communications #pr #publicsafety #education https://advocast.media

I help advancement leaders use philanthropy communications to close more 7-, 8-, and 9-figure gifts.
#Storytelling doesn’t have to be done with words. Data can speak volumes. Whenever I see a #fundraising website or brochure that touts numbers — number of people served, number of dollars raised, etc. — I always feel like I’m only getting part of the story. Here’s what I mean: “We served 1,000 people last year.” OK. That’s nice. I still have some questions: How many people needed to be served but weren’t? How many people did you serve the year before? Will you be able to serve that many in the future? See what I mean? Comparisons, trends, and projections tell a more complete story. And if you can visualize that data, even better. — 👉 Your turn: How are you using numbers in your fundraising or #DonorRelations work? — Hi, I’m Emily, the president of #Weiswood Strategies. We create #philanthropy communications that empower fundraisers to close more 7-, 8-, and 9-figure gifts. Like this post? You might also like our periodic email newsletter.
