I had a chance to visit the Emerson College Los Angeles last week, and besides my uncontainable enthusiasm with another masterpiece of Architect Thom Mayne, I took a couple branding lessons. Emerson College is one of the top film schools in the country, and the LA campus was built as a satellite to accomodate 200 Senior studens of the Boston campus who come for a semester-long internship program in LaLaLand, the most important hub of the entertainment industry. With that in mind: - Investing in a state-of-the-art campus was a priority in order to offer the best possible experiences to the students, Emerson’s primary customers, offering innovative academic solutions while expanding interactive, social aspects of education. They make it clear that community is an essential value of their brand. - By choosing world acclaimed Architect Thom Mayne and his office Morphosis to lead the campus’ design, Emerson immediately puts its building on the Los Angeles’ landmarks map and creates a statement on innovation that will propel its brand for years to come. An incontestably impactful exposure. - By celebrating a design language that translates its brand values and vision, Emerson also created a secondary and powerful source of revenue by locating the facilities for movie, TV and commercial productions interested in framing its sculptural shapes on the screen, reason of my visit. "My colleagues and I are working on projects that allow us to challenge ourselves - especially in the field of sustainability." As an engineer among architects, these are words by Zoey Hansen. Zoey joined our internship in the autumn of 2020 and is now one of our skilled sustainability specialists in Aarhus. As a former intern, Zoey was a part of our college program, which ensures, among other things, that our interns get off to a good start and are equipped with the latest knowledge in the industry. "I could drill down into areas that I was passionate about. I always knew that I should not design, it has always been my interest to become a specialist and work within a niche," Zoey explains. Zoey's former mentor, Lars Kvist, experienced Lecturer at Arkitema College and Chief Specialist in our sustainability team, is impressed by her professional growth within her field: "Today there are even more nuances of sustainability that Zoey, among others, is acquiring. This gives her knowledge that is highly essential for our clients and other advisors to know about. Both Zoey and Lars agree that sustainability in construction evolves due to the ongoing requirements and availability of new technologies, materials, and approaches: "Today's students are well-versed in sustainability. So, when I convey sustainability to student interns, I emphasize a holistic approach providing them with a tangible understanding of sustainability through real-world cases," elaborates Lars Kvist. #sustainability #internship #arkitemacollege

At Karlshochschule, we want students to go into practice so as to apply theory in different projects and internships as well as to get to know one's own strengths and weaknesses through teamwork. Our Bachelor students applied for company and community projects provided by various companies and organizations. In teams of 4 - 5 people, they work on these projects for a semester with the support of their project sponsors and coaches from Karlshochschule. Those are full days of focused work with the assistance of experienced coaches. We wish our students every success!
