Tune into the latest episode of the Yeah, That’s Probably an Ad podcast with Rebecca Stewart, as she sits down with Match Group’s Jonathan Kirkland, Cindy L., and Julia Estacolchic to explore the evolution of dating apps. 💌 Here are the top takeaways: - Dating apps have expanded to more than just a place to find romance, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic’s social isolation. - There has been an increased need for niche, diverse apps, representing different communities. - In campaigns, social and dating apps need to address cultural tensions and differences to engage with their audiences. - AI is being leveraged by dating app marketing teams, but they have to be careful to still remain aligned with the core principles of authenticity, safety, equity, and user benefit. https://adweek.it/3WtkAv8 Listen now for a look behind the scenes of the dating app world: 🎧 Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/3zRHfcN 🎧 Spotify: https://bit.ly/3LwPvRQ

Just listened to this really good podcast & wanted to share a couple of things that got stuck in my mind 🎧💭 I absolutely love Hinge’s main message that pops up as soon as you download the app “designed to be deleted” which clearly points out their primary goal to “teach people to have better and harmonious relationships”. They set their focus on the consumer and their problem instead of selling their product. People sign up for dating apps to find “in a world full of loneliness some love and a meaningful connection.” 🫶🏼🌷 This also differentiates them from their main competitiors as the CEO of Hinge points out that most dating apps see more potential in people being single as this means for them to have more users. Instead of creating another app to swipe left and right, he wanted to give people more time to actually get to know each other. Another great topic was the company’s culture 🪄 I found this super interesting: He explained that he has a shared document for his employees where he writes down his principles, thoughts and experiences which let to those principles to create a working culture that can make good decisions. He said that company decisions should not be based on his opinion but on principles that route in testing and innovating processes. 💡

Interesting read. Because, the truth is: dating apps are a scam and the intention is not for people to find love, it's for investors to make their money back - which is clearly outlined in this piece. We have a podcast episode with an expert on this coming up soon! Fascinating topic. https://lnkd.in/duba6Xze

Few things in life confuse me like dating apps. So when I got a pitch from Lidia Infante to come on the Strategy Sessions and talk about marketing fundamentals can work for app users, I was hooked. But it's not what I expected... it's better/worse/different! This episode covers marketing concepts you need to know about like; ✔️Marketing funnels ✔️Sales qualified leads ✔️Marketing qualified leads ✔️Conversions ✔️Automation of Google Sheets But all through the lens of how Lidia found her husband 🤯. Yes, I know reading this post you must be thinking "Jarvis has been taking LSD before work today" but this really is a tremendous listen. I've rarely felt so out of touch on any subject and you can hear my confusion, shock and awe while Lidia is telling her story. 💥If you're using dating apps and want better results, you should listen to this episode. 💥If you're just wondering "does anyone *really* use a Google Sheet to keep track of a matches?", have a listen. 💥If you've never used a dating app and want an insight into what your friends and colleagues are going through, check it out. 💥If you want to hear me sound like a geriatric 👴🏾 who doesn't understand the youth of today, tune in. Thanks to Lidia for this episode - if you do write the book about this, I'll buy the first copy.

☕ Here's what we're listening to with our Monday morning coffee: Hard-won lessons on building a values-driven dating app empire with Hinge founder Justin McLeod on Steven Bartlett's "The Diary of a CEO" podcast. 1/ Success often emerges from an obsessive desire to solve your own burning problem. For McLeod, addiction and romantic failure drove him towards fixing dated assumptions that the market was saturated. 2/ When user backlash mounts or metrics slip, resist chasing trends. Instead revisit your north star - for Hinge it was getting people off-app on great dates. Stay anchored in serving genuine human needs. 3/ VCs may balk at contrarian visions or business model innovations. But stick to convictions rooted in changing cultural signals, even if you stand alone. Timing and persistence matter more than consensus. 4/ As you scale, periodically "reboot" aspects of product or culture that no longer serve customers or employees. And codify the magic before it disappears through a game of telephone. 5/ Hiring for values alignment matters more than specific skills. Build an interview process assessing for culture add, not just competence, to reduce attrition and indirectly better serve customers. 6/ Pull decision-making inward as you grow to keep strategy cohesive vs. siloed. And continue exhibiting vulnerable leadership - through modeling desired behaviors and nudging the org towards its best self. Wait, You're not 5'6" First swipe and maybe the last? Dating, dating, dating. Stories about the demise of the once-darlings of our swipe-drenched universe are becoming a side industry. Especially those that explore the dating app backlash—including this great piece by Sarah Laing, in the Toronto Star. Yes, I am quoted in the piece. Is this a North American trend- to let the swipe dry out and tumble down the street like episodes of And Just Like That? Negative, as revealed on the great BBC Podcast called BROWN GIRLS DO IT TOO. As one of the hosts, Chaira, says about useless algorithms: “If TikTok can find out that I like to watch cats doing dances, the dating apps can definitely realise I don’t want Steven who doesn’t like dogs… they can wean these people out of my way.” True, so true. I explore a lot of these issues in my new book, which I’m sure people are SICK of me slogging but an author’s gotta do. A lot, even after the book comes out, maybe especially after the book comes out. I thought it would be fun to return to the VERY FIRST in-person date I had, like ever. I don’t remember why, but this story isn’t included in the book. So, it’s like turning over an old stone and discovering the new things wriggling beneath it. Worms, moist dark earth, a hidden patch of life. Enter Bumble date #1- late August 2017. Enter Sandman, which is still a very dope song. Maybe these lines especially: “Sleep with one eye open. Gripping your pillow tight.” #datingapps #dating #relationships #swipeculture #sexuality #womenslives https://lnkd.in/gh2tP49C

Anyone who’s used a dating app knows there’s a special game people play trying to find a perfect match. Sound familiar? It all comes down to marketing. People on dating apps market themselves to each other — and there’s a lot we can learn from how they do it. ✅ Show your personality — Dating apps allow users to answer creative prompts to show off their character. Similarly, your audience wants to get to know you as an organization, so think of ways to show off what makes you, you! ✅Make a good impression … fast — The decision to swipe right or left on a dating app is made within mere seconds. Capture your audience’s attention at the beginning of the conversation, not the end. ✅Be clear about what you want — Looking for marriage … or just keeping it casual? Be clear about your intentions from the start. Let prospects know upfront what you want, and what you can give in return. ✅Slow your roll — Whether it’s constant follow-ups, intrusive conversations, or someone simply not taking the hint, being too pushy is all too familiar in the dating — and marketing — world. Take a beat, let people digest what you have to say, and let them decide if you’re a perfect match. ✅Be curious — Ever texted with a potential partner for way too long before you realized they haven’t tried to learn anything about you? Draw prospects into conversation by following up an answer with a question to learn more about what they want. There’s a lot to be learned by observing human interaction and socialization. Knowing what to look for and how to translate that to marketing can help generate new ideas and increase your impact.

A Redesign for Modern Connection: Inspired by love, loneliness and a quest for authenticity I’ve developed an obsession over how humans connect. After countless hours of research, binge-listening to podcasts, engaging in conversations with friends, and conducting a 'Modern Dating' survey, three things have become abundantly clear: - We aren’t happy with modern dating. We all think it sucks. - We are craving authentic connections. - We are spending valuable time and money searching for connections. In this article, I explore the paradox of seeking genuine connections in our hyper-connected world, examine the contribution of dating apps to feelings of loneliness, and propose a new design ethos centered on authenticity and self-discovery to foster more meaningful relationships. This is my 'why' – the reason I am not building a dating app, but instead, am deeply passionate about building a new ecosystem, one that champions authenticity. I'd love to hear your personal experiences and thoughts on this new approach.

🖤 Bumble have cleared their Instagram feed and are announcing a rebrand tomorrow. As someone who’s experienced the highs and lows of being in trenches on dating apps - I'm VERY curious to see how this plays out. If you were rebranding, what would you focus on? Here are some prompts I'd use if I were running a workshop on the future of dating apps... 🤔 What's the deal with dating apps right now? 💖 Where are people finding incredible romantic connections right now? 👩🔬 What's the science behind human connection? What's the magical part of human connection that can't be explained? 💞 What would inspire brand love for a tool that has left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths? 👯 We've all heard dating horror stories but what are the great stories that have come out of dating apps but don't necessarily lead to life-long commitment? 📚 What's a hopeful experience and narrative for a dating app that actually brings people one step closer to companionship, love connection and self-knowledge? Sound off in the comments 📣
