On stage at Decoding the Future of Women, I was reflecting on how far femtech has come – when I founded Elvie eleven years ago, the word ‘femtech’ didn’t exist. But we had all eyes on the future, discussing femtech consumer of 2050 with Leila Thabet (who was breast pumping with her Elvie Curve during the panel!), Chantal Cox, Elena Rueda and Dr Michelle Griffin. Chantal summarised the challenge: "We need to excite and delight women with healthcare, we are still approaching them with speculums which are 100 years old!" The potential to do this with innovation, driven by technology, is vast. By 2050, developments in AI and the opportunity for hyper-personalisation will give us an unparalleled ability to diagnose and identify women’s health issues - and speed up access to education and treatment. I think Gen Z will demand more from their healthcare and technology experiences. This will bring more players in to the market and continue to disrupt decades-old industries, like Elvie did with the pelvic floor trainer and breast pump categories. I can't wait to see what's next. 🚀

💪Shattering glass ceilings and breaking new ground! Ann Kiessling was one of the first scientists who proved that a reverse enzyme existed in the family of viruses. A reverse enzyme is an enzyme wherein the genetic information flows to DNA from RNA. This National Women's History Month, let's celebrate the fearless women inventors who inspire us every day. Invent and Present is proud to support women on their invention journey. 🔬 DiaMonTech AG x Institut für Diabetes-Technologie: #Curious how such a study takes place? Listen to our CTO Michael Kaluza explaining what the goal and the setup of the study were, as well as the challenge we faced. Our key take aways were: 💫 Preparation is key: it took us month to get there, but we are sure glad that we prepared everything so tediously! 💫 Find the right partner: with Dr. Guido Freckmann and his experienced team, we knew that our technology was in the right hands. 💫 Trust the team: in such a setup, top down doesn't work.

Following the FemTechnology Health Summit of 2023, a report on the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗮𝗽 by Women At The Table has since been released of the key findings.... Some core takeaways from it (quoting statistics direct from the source): ✴ Women have a 50% greater chance of misdiagnosis of a heart attack compared to men. ✴41% of UK universities do not have mandatory menopause education on the curriculum. ✴There are only 2 FDA-approved treatments for female sexual dysfunction - which impacts approximately 40% of women in the world - vs 27 treatment options for men ✴Racial and ethnic minorities comprise 39% of the United States population but only account for 2% to 16% of clinical trial participants. ✴Women wait an average of 4 years longer to receive a diagnosis for the same disease as men. So what does this mean for FemTech? "𝘖𝘯 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦, 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦-𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘴 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘦 $4.6𝘮, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 $9.2𝘮 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴." This means, that on average, female founders in the FemTech space have to justify their company's mission and vision in an alternate way to male founders, and be met with different obstacles in the funding journey. This is a fact that has been known globally, for years. With numerous FemTech brands emerging every month, it's critical we celebrate the successes and growth of each company. On the surface, the Women's+ Health hub appears to be primarily in Western societies, with limited funding into other continents, but I'm hoping it extends to Africa and Asia this year, so we can truly help women on a global scale. So what can we do? Aside from personally investing, we can spotlight key issues and companies that are working to battle the gender disparities in the healthcare arena. Over the last few months, myself and Caitlin James, have been kept busy with the FemTech market continuing to grow, and recruitment needs heightening worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates in 2024... #femtech #womenshealth #femalehealth

It's a kick-off! Through a collaborative network of partners, foundingGIDE is initiating a joint effort to coordinate imaging resources from Europe, Japan and Australia, to facilitate access for researchers worldwide. When it comes to imaging data circulation, FAIRness is the key! foundingGIDE gathers the global imaging community around a common crucial goal: break the barriers preventing imaging data access and sharing. Common imaging standards are crucial to enable data sharing. The #foundingGIDE project will enable the concerted development of imaging ontologies and metadata in association with the global imaging community. The project aims to found an operational global image data ecosystem. The global imaging community will implement the common ontologies, metadata & and standards adopted by the project.
