Lights, Camera, Action 📸 🎥 Gamuda Australia’s Ek-Khai Tan recently found himself in front of the camera after Channel 10 visited the Sydney Metro West Eastern Creek Precast Facility.    The Eastern Creek Precast Facility comprises of three huge sheds, including the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package precast shed, and was purpose-built to support the construction of the new metro line that will connect Greater Parramatta to the Sydney CBD. The Sydney Metro West tunnelling supercentre is around 17 hectares – the equivalent in size of 42 football fields. Work deep underground to build the Sydney Metro West tunnels is powering ahead, with four of six tunnel boring machines (TBMs) in the ground. Approximately 500 segments are produced at the facility each day and stored in the yard, before being transported to site for loading onto a TBM. The TBM then installs the segments to the tunnel walls as it excavates forming the rings that line the tunnels. The facility is creating more than 570 jobs and serving as a catalyst for local development in Western Sydney.  The Gamuda Australia and Laing O'Rourke Consortium (GLC) is delivering the Sydney Metro West – Western Tunnelling Package. The project involves nine kilometres of twin metro rail tunnels between Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park, excavation for two new metro stations, a stabling and maintenance facility at Clyde and a precast facility at Eastern Creek. The Joint Venture GEME composed of the French companies EUROVIA Alpes / Carrieres du Bassin Rhonalpin / SATM / Granulats VICAT / SPIE BATIGNOLLES VALERIAN / SPIE BATIGNOLLES MALET / VINCI Construction Terrassements / GIE GMM 73 have secured the EUR799.7 million contract for the recovery of excavation materials on the French side of the Mont Cenis base tunnel. With a view to sustainable development and circular economy. TELT has chosen to aim for maximum reuse of materials extracted during civil works. It is estimated that of the 37 million tons of these excavated earth and rocks, of which approximately 30 million tons extracted in France, over 50% will be reused in the works. A reuse objective that could reach 60% thanks to the recent agreement signed by the Intergovernmental Commission on behalf of the Italian and French governments. For the first time in Europe, in fact, it becomes possible to reuse excavation materials beyond national borders, considering the international section of the Turin-Lyon as a "single construction site".  For further information please visit the #tunnelbuilder website!

Exciting News in the Construction Sector! 🏗️ The latest Rider Levett Bucknall Crane (RLB) Index reveals remarkable growth in the Australian construction industry. 🇦🇺 In 2022, total construction activity increased by 1.8%, reaching $3.9 billion more than in 2021, as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. 📈 And the momentum continues! In Q1 2023, construction activity surged by 3.9%, totaling an additional $2.1 billion year-on-year. Domenic Schiafone, RLB Oceania Director of Research and Development, highlights the impressive expansion, with 303 new cranes on new projects and 257 removed from nearly completed buildings. This brings the total number of cranes across major regions to a record 882, marking a 5.5% increase since the last publication. Sydney remains at the forefront of this construction wave, with 401 cranes towering over the city. Other major cities, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Perth, are also contributing to this boom. The residential sector hit a record high with 554 cranes, while non-residential projects also flourished with 328 cranes.
