This experiment presents a highly effective solution for energy storage. Notably, the use of superheated steam to store and discharge thermal energy enhances the system's performance. The ability to charge and discharge heat at varying rates further validates its reliability. More utility companies should consider adopting this approach. However, in sudden load-changing scenarios, a molten salt-based thermal energy storage system may prove more efficient, as molten salt offers a higher charging and discharging ramp rate than concrete-based systems.

In the ERCOT market, is Energy Storage Resource discharge data published? I just realized the ERCOT Fuel mix report that reports actual generation for each interval by fuel type includes ESR charging load but not the discharge energy. It would surely help complete the picture.

Long duration energy storage panel at #ceraweek had academia (Yi Cui from Stanford) industry (Julia Sounder at Long Duration Energy Storage Counsel and Chet Lyons at Corte Energy) and government leader (Ministor Fitzgibbon from the government of Quebec) to discuss the opportunities and challenges in new long-duration energy storage techs. This could be a strategical area for fundamental research in academia institutes as the 2.0 version of battery development.
