While cleaning up my mail, I came across a link that I was pleasantly surprised to find old. https://lnkd.in/g-7kAfAf Even a decade ago(at page 10) when Automotive Ethernet standards and ecosystem was created, it was envisioned that Ethernet would transform IVN into zonal. Spatial or regional, but the meaning was similar. Later, the number of controllers and simplification was announced and shared, but most OEMs are still in the process of transitioning to zonal. The reduction and simplification of the number of controllers in the vehicle is just one of electronic devices, including ICE vehicles also. Until now, we've been using a vehicle-specific or dedicated protocol. As we move to Zonal, it's better to change more commonly used protocol at the same time than to put off the protocol change until later.
