"The ‘S’ (social) requires a paradigm shift. while the ‘E’ (environment) often implies thinking about assets in isolation, the ‘S’ is about creating places. I think this will also change how we approach environmental matters."

Last week, I was really happy to participate in the event at BLOXHUB and see a positive shift in giving equal weight to the social (“S”) alongside environmental impact.
Because addressing social isn't about some extraordinary human needs - it is about fundamental rights that impact us all, especially having access to affordable housing.
By 2030, 3 billion people will need affordable housing, yet despite building 15 million new dwellings each year in Europe - housing inequality grows, and grows - here and there. Also, I won't expand on how much transformation and renovation is needed rather than tearing down (E). But to start - a real impact requires people-centered cities that truly serve everyone. This is what S is in the first place, and equally to it we also should talk about making our cities more livable, diverse, healthy, and inclusive!
I recommend you checking out the new Building Equity white paper which highlights housing as a human right, explores creative investment models that make communities stronger and more affordable in the long run. And also, what I always stand for - *cross-sector collaboration* and *supporting clients in that sustainable-oriented shift*.
