Breastfeeding journeys are as unique as each parent's. While recommendations suggest exclusive breastmilk feeding for six months, realities differ for everyone. In the US, breastfeeding rates vary widely by state, ranging from 13% to 36%. Your local area may reflect these variations, shaping perceptions of whether breastfeeding is commonplace. Access to support and education plays a vital role in these differences. Communities with longer breastfeeding durations often offer accessible or affordable services like lactation consultants. Join us in exploring breastfeeding diversity. Let's support every parent's choices. Breastfeeding Week takes place in the first week of August every year. This global initiative highlights the importance of breastfeeding for child health and survival. Despite its benefits, fewer than half of infants under 6 months are exclusively breastfed. Let’s join efforts to create a world where every mother and child has the support they need for a healthy start. "Breastfeeding is food sovereignty. Breastfeeding is health equity. Breastfeeding is healing." – Jessica Fedenia From August 1st to 7th, we unite globally to celebrate and advocate for breastfeeding. This year's theme, "Closing the Gap," focuses on addressing the disparities and barriers that prevent many parents from successfully breastfeeding their children. Breastfeeding provides unparalleled health benefits for both infants and mothers, including optimal nutrition, enhanced immunity, and a deepened emotional bond. Despite these benefits, many working parents find it difficult to maintain breastfeeding due to a lack of support in the workplace, widening the gap in health outcomes. To truly close the gap, we must advocate for comprehensive policies that support breastfeeding parents. By creating a supportive environment, we can empower all parents to breastfeed, regardless of their socioeconomic status or professional commitments. As we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2024, let's commit to making meaningful changes. By addressing these disparities and working together, we can close the gap and ensure that every parent has the opportunity to give their child the best start in life. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek2024 #ClosingTheGap #SupportBreastfeeding

So many women do not receive the support they need to optimally breastfeed their babies. Notably, #Breastfeeding in public gets easier with practice but we need to treat it as a special meal time for the baby the same we take our meals at public places or food outlets. Support gives mothers confidence and the baby will in turn get sufficient milk. As the World Breastfeeding week comes to close, we must note that #Everyone has a role in Closing the gap to enhance breastfeeding support for our mothers throughout this crucial journey. #PartnersAgainstHunger #ClosingtheGap
