The Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Bill that passed into law was a major bipartisan achievement and there will be “some pretty rigorous oversight” of the FAA and other agencies. An important message to those leaders who refuse to listen to the boots on the ground. When those directly engaged in the day to day operations tell you they are stretched beyond capacity and you refuse to listen, there can be devastating consequences. There are too many instances to count where pushy leaders or politicians have created an environment where the work simply isn't sustainable. This happens for a variety of reasons, but more often than not it seems to occurr when those at the top simply refuse to take NO as an answer or provide additional resources in order to get what they want, be it better on time performance, more flights, more trains, etc. There has to be a better way to hold these leaders/politicians accountable for their unreasonable demands.
