🚨 Applied For Job? - Don't Get Scammed! I just had a conversation with an incredibly talented candidate who avoided a potential job scam! 🚨 Candidate's Story 🚨 About a week ago... she applied for a job on LinkedIn, went though an initial interview screening that lasted 30 minutes, she thought the call went well and was excited to hear back. To her surprise, she received a job offer within the next 2 days. They mentioned her equipment would be arriving shortly. However, when she went to collect her equipment, all she found was a monitor and a check attached. They instructed her to authorize the check and use the funds to purchase her own equipment so they can track her spending........ (MASSIVE RED FLAG!) She caught this and immediately cut off all contact with them. ⚠️It's crucial to share these experiences to raise awareness, help job seekers stay alert and look red flags during a job search! 💡It's always best to work with a trusted specialist. A quick update on the fraud job seekers are experiencing this week under the Steyer name: We've filed formal complaints with the FBI/IC3 and the domain registrar where the .site domains were created to spoof would-be applicants. The faux hiring documents used in this round of fraud are more sophisticated than what we saw last summer, and the tactics have shifted to include platforms like Discord. Action to take: ✅ Please connect with us at recruiting@steyer.net at any time, especially if you're currently working with a Steyer recruiter on a job opening and wish to confirm that you're working with our team. ✅ Triple-check the domain names used to contact you about new opportunities-- do the email addresses match a legitimate company website? ✅ Read all contracts before signing. Even a dense legal document should be comprehensible, free from egregious grammatical errors and oddly phrased sentences. ✅ Beware of "equipment fees"-- a legitimate agency will not ever ask you to PAY money to be hired or start work somewhere.

Fake job adverts - here are some facts. If you work in recruitment and you are not building trust with your network everday - here are some things to think about: - LinkedIn shut down over 86 million fake accounts last year - US Federal Trade Commission says that losses from fraudulent ads rose by 25% in 2023, to $491 million - Candidates are tricked into supplying key personal information that enables scammers to commit identity theft every day.  - The number of job scams has increased more than five-fold over the past five years.   Serious recruiters care about their relationships. In person meetings, delivering on promises, referrals, Linkedin reviews, proper research on candidate/client etc etc. Serious recruiters know how important trust is because we know how many bad players are out there. And when we turn up to work, we ultimately need to ask ourselves: "Do we want to be part of the problem? Fake job postings are on the rise, and it's important to stay alert and protect yourself from fraud. Scammers are always impersonating companies on LinkedIn and other job platforms regarding non existent positions. Verify the job posting before applying or providing any personal information. They usually will not reveal the company, so move on never provide any personal information. Stay safe and protect yourself from these scams. Beware of scammers! Here are some great job search tips from the FTC

Beware of recruiting scams! The FTC has posted an alert about scammers who are using fake job offers to obtain personal data from their victims. We’ve been notified that Waypoint is among the companies these scammers have impersonated on LinkedIn. Waypoint will NEVER ask you to provide personal or account information prior to being interviewed in person. From the FTC website: “Scammers are lurking on LinkedIn and other job sites, posing as ‘recruiters’ for well-known companies. But instead of looking to hire you, they’re really looking to take your money and personal information. It starts with a direct message on a job search site like Indeed or LinkedIn. The ‘recruiter’ says you have exactly the skill set they’re looking for... Hey #jobseekers BEWARE of fake recruiters! This scam has been going on for years and it's not much different than the ad fraud I witnessed during my time at DoubleVerify. The fake recruiters change company names slightly and the names they use in email. They have a website that has many pages of content but all of it verbose and not that specific. You may get an email similar to this one (they use varied versions of the names) and they want you to pay for your resume to be "ATS Compatible". --> THIS IS NOT TRUE. DO NOT PAY! I was smart enough to not engage here and did some digging. The website they use is a FAKE DOMAIN and likely is using stock images for the names they use in the email. The job hunt is hard enough. Now you need to be wary of fraudsters trying to get more money for those that need it most. Hopefully this post will expose it again so my network is not impacted by this scam.

Please Beware! There is recruiting fraud occurring all around you! Make absolutely sure you are speaking with a recruiter and not someone impersonating a recruiter on LinkedIn (or other social media.) A scammer can steal the identity of a recruiter and a legitimate company. Quick Tip: Go to the company website and contact the recruiter directly. Or, go to their LinkedIn profile and message them directly to verify interest.
