The German rail market offers significant opportunities for Malaysian companies with expertise in various sectors: - Power supply - Signalling technology - Rolling stock (trains) - Track technology - Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services - Remanufacturing There's a growing demand in Germany, with Malaysia's rail trade with Germany experiencing a 25% increase in 2023. Malaysia's trade with Germany is increasing, reaching RM47.8 million in 2023, a 25% jump from the previous year. To capitalize on this, MATRADE is organizing a Malaysian delegation to InnoTrans 2024, a major rail industry trade fair happening in Berlin this September. This is a great platform for Malaysian companies to connect with German industry leaders and showcase their sustainable rail technologies. There's a growing global interest in rail transportation, which Malaysia can capitalize on. Malaysia's Competitive Edge : Emphasis on sustainability in the Malaysian rail industry aligns well with Germany's focus on eco-friendly practices. This focus positions Malaysia as a leader in regional and global railway infrastructure development.

I recently had the opportunity to speak at the TRB Webinar "Implementing Alternative Flexible Pavement Binders". My presentation "Bitumen availability and sustainability pushing for innovation and alternative binders" was about Scandinavias unique needs for soft binders relative to the rest of Europe, and how this need may represent challenges in terms of availability and product quality. At the same time, this need also represents opportunities for high quality biogenic materials in a time where reductions in CO2-footprint is greatly valued by public road owners in Norway and now also Denmark. What is happening in Scandinavia now, is really transforming research, development and commercial aspects of our industry. I have never seen this type of willingness and ability to change so quickly before, in my 30+ years of this industry. If more countries follow in this direction, we are up for very exiting times..
