H2M’s Senior Vice President and Director of Private Sector Architecture, Kevin Paul, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, CFM, recently offered his insights to Long Island Business News for an article on how architects overcome the design challenges posed by climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic through creativity and innovation. These challenges include designing structures that address future climate and weather events, which are often unprecedented and unpredictable. For example, buildings may have to be designed with flooding resiliency in mind, even in areas that have not typically been subject to heavy floodwaters in the past. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way interior spaces are designed, pushing architects to be more creative about how they address public health concerns without disrupting the open flow of spaces that are often limited in their square footage. what's bioclimatic architecture? Bioclimatic design was first named by the Olgyay brothers in 1960. They were investigating how buildings can adapt to varying climatic environmental conditions. There main aim was to reduce the energy consumption in relation with building and climate due to increase in the usage of energy during 1970 which coined them to think about this design (Zuhairy and Sayigh, 1993). Buildings and spaces (indoor and outdoor) are designed to provide thermal and visual comfort for the dwellings with respect to the local climate and utilising solar energy and other natural resources is known as bioclimatic architecture. This has become a worldwide recognised approach in the construction industry during the last few decades by engineers and architects (Maria, 2012).

D E S I G N F O R A L L is a vital part of current and future construction or renovation projects! Facilities that are subject to law must be designed accordingly to ensure accessibility for all people. As this is a complex area, it is important for building professionals, private individuals and local authorities to be informed and instructed accordingly. BELVEDERE Architecture has already undergone the training (adapth.lu - official partner of the OAI) and is working with this newly acquired expertise on several projects. We are authorised to act as a technical inspector for accessibility in accordance with the conditions of Article 9 of the law of 7 January 2022 on the accessibility of public places, public roads and apartment buildings. #designforall #accessibilité #accessibility #barrierefrei #Konformität #conformity #conformité #architecture #construction #renovation #luxembourg
