#AsSeenInPrint | Into the Sunlight Maia Flore's 'Constellation' is on the cover of our recent issue. This image shows a dramatically lit figure, in a red jumpsuit, bounding towards the camera. What are they running to? Or from? "The French photographer has developed a reputation for constructing dreamworlds where figures float, balance and bend, sometimes defying the laws of physics. Her compositions are crisp and colourful, to the point that they border on the surreal." Difference Between Fine Art Vs Visual Art Fine art and visual art are terms often used interchangeably, but they have subtle differences. Visual art is like the cool, colorful party where you'll find paintings, sculptures, and photos showing off their creative dance moves. Let me introduce you to fine art – it's the superstar in the spotlight at this arty bash. Fine art is like the Beyoncé of the art world, bringing the wow factor with every stroke and snap. It's not just about looking pretty; it's about making you feel something deep. So, next time you're hanging out with art, remember: every piece of fine art is visual art, but not every visual art piece gets that fancy fine art status! Let me geek out on visual perception for a moment… I visited the Chuck Close exhibition at Pace Gallery in Chelsea—the first presentation of Close's work there since his death in 2021. Known for his groundbreaking approach to conceptual portraiture, Close transformed photographic portraits into meticulously gridded paintings. From a visual perception standpoint, his technique of breaking down photographic images into gridded compositions challenges the viewer's perception, compelling us to engage both with the individual components and the whole image simultaneously. This dual engagement taps into the brain's feature integration theory, which suggests that the visual system analyzes objects in terms its individual features (color, shape, size, etc.) before integrating them into a coherent whole. Close's paintings thus become a practical exploration of how we perceive and reconstruct images in our brain. #chuckclose #artandscience #artcollecting

Creative art spaces are so inspiring, they ignite and fuel imagination, and inspire us to make cool stuff. Sometimes, it's not just the works themselves but the spaces they inhabit that leave an indelible mark on our minds. These spaces, imbued with a palpable soul and rich history, are wellsprings of unmatched creativity. They are cozy, distinctive, slightly disheveled, and bear the marks of time, with tons of character, both a sanctuary and a canvas for creation. In contrast to the sterile, uniform, and uninspiring environments that are increasingly prevalent today, the rarity of such authentically vibrant spaces is a true loss, but this law shows how we can protect these artist and their spaces. This video by Joshua Charow is a must watch for those that appreciate history, originality and artist spaces.

#Creatives often work like horses with blinders on, focused narrowly on their specific #art form—writers on their words, filmmakers on their frames, designers on their canvases. My recent visit to an exhibition titled - "Visible/Invisible: Representation of Women in Art" at the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) - was a revelation! The exhibition showcases human #experiences as complex and porous - transcending the boundary of any single medium. It's a must-see for all artists, whether you wield a pen, a camera, a brush or a mouse! #Storytelling
