Veteran Housing Corp reminds you that #HOMELESSNESS IS THE RESULT OF DECADES OF THE FAILURE TO BUILD AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL. THE HISTORY AND PRESENT STATE OF THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IN AMERICA CAN BE SUMMED UP IN ONE WORD: BROKEN DON'T BE FOOLED BY SLICK PROMOTIONAL POSTS THAT MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOUR LOCAL, STATE OR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS ARE SOLVING THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS. WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, THE PUBLIC AND TAXPAYERS MUST ASK: AT WHAT COST TO THE TAXPAYERS AND HOW LONG IS THE AFFORDABILITY PERIOD? EVERY TAXPAYER SHOULD BE ASKING THEIR ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, density bonus increase, waivers of impact fees, or other government benefit or incentive did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project and, if the affordability period is not in perpetuity or permanent, WHY NOT? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants in the affordable housing units will not be displaced after an "affordability period expires? Any LOCAL, STATE or FEDERAL official that does not MANDATE "permanent" affordability periods or affordability "IN PERPETUITY" for any project receiving some government benefit is commiting MALFEASANCE and should quit, be removed from office or be terminated. IN MOST CASES WHEN IT COMES TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING, the public and taxpayer are being fooled into thinking their elected and appointed officials are solving problems, when in fact, all hey have done is "KICK THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" to burden a future generation with the same problem or crisis!
Today, Funders Together filed an amicus brief with our partners at National Alliance to End Homelessness and Enterprise Community Partners for the Johnson v. Grants Pass case to urge #SCOTUS to protect the lives and rights of our unhoused neighbors across the country. “As institutions that invest and support proven solutions to homelessness and housing instability, philanthropy has a responsibility to also utilize its voice to protect our unhoused neighbors’ rights and lives,” said Amanda Andere, CEO of Funders Together to End Homelessness. “This brief emphasizes our organization’s and member’s unapologetic support for solutions that are rooted in humanity, choice, and the understanding that everyone deserves a safe place to call home." https://lnkd.in/gztVPRBY

Homelessness can be a vicious circle. And many people can be released from homelessness for good with really quite modest cash grants. Find out more about how Greater Change does this: https://lnkd.in/eKcMBxHS
We caught up with Leigh two years after he received a grant from Greater Change, which allowed him to fund his rental deposit and purchase essential furnishings for his new flat. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Leigh and Coraline are settled into their new home and he continues to sustain his move out of homelessness!

This. Wondering how your organization can model a commitment to reconciliation in your work? Read this example.
In 2023, we gathered the community in the Tri-Cities for a forum to identify the gaps in affordable housing, revealing a major concern with homelessness. A significant finding was the increasing number of unhoused individuals, now at 160 and rising, with a third being Indigenous. We didn’t just analyze the data – we took immediate action. Securing a $25,000 grant for a homelessness and housing feasibility study, we formed an outreach team guided by the Indigenous principle of "all my relations," the understanding that we are all interconnected and share a responsibility to care for one another. With an Indigenous-led board of directors, we allocated the remaining funds to support our unhoused friends, resulting in our dedicated team finding affordable housing solutions for six previously unhoused neighbors. To continue funding this crucial work, we launched a second thrift store, Thrift & Fund, right in the heart of the Tri-Cities. Our goal is to generate revenue from this store to reinvest in the community and support our unhoused neighbors. Join us at Thrift & Fund to shop like a legend and donate like a hero. Your support helps us co-create a compassionate, caring community where we work together instead of against each other. Let’s stand together for each other and all our relations. We're open every day. #community #tricities #strongertogether

As the snow falls outside, let's take a moment to reflect on the stark reality faced by those experiencing homelessness during this winter storm. For many, preparing for a snowstorm means securing shelter, warmth, and provisions. But for those without homes, it's a chilling struggle for survival against the elements. Each snowflake serves as a reminder of the biting cold and the constant battle for warmth. The latest statistics show that the homeless rate is expected to rise for the third year in a row. Despite efforts, the number of individuals facing homelessness continues to increase, exacerbated by the ongoing effects of the pandemic and rising living costs. As you cozy up indoors, consider the impact you can make in the lives of those less fortunate. Your donations can provide vital support to our Homeless Outreach Team, enabling them to connect vulnerable individuals with essential resources, offering shelter, compassion, and dignity. Today we announce our Housing for Health initiative in New York City aiming to clear the hurdles standing between health stability, safe housing, and a population of people who are critically underserved: New Yorkers with complex health and social needs who are experiencing homelessness. This initiative anchors our New York City Program’s current grantmaking with $17.6 million committed to date supporting organizations including Anthos|Home, Breaking Ground (NYC Permanent Supportive Housing), Convergent Impact, The Corporation for Supportive Housing, FJC - A Foundation of Philanthropic Funds' Fund to End Youth and Family Homelessness, and The Supportive Housing Network of New York. “Stable housing is the first step toward stable health,” New York City Program Officer Tracy Perrizo said. “Homelessness is a solvable problem, and our grants are focused on eliminating unnecessary barriers into housing, supporting the right care to maintain stability, and helping to strengthen the field of durable, responsive housing for health solutions.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/euUmpRey

OMI Cultural Participation Project is committed to artistic & cultural excellence in San Francisco District 11, and providing resources to those in need. With the high cost of living pushing many vulnerable individuals & families to the brink and onto the streets, we recognize the need for safe & secure housing, and basic necessities to help stabilize our community. As homelessness continues to rise citywide in San Francisco, and especially in our community, our goal is to create a network foundation of support and compassion with our community partners, providing hope and a new start for those who have fallen on hard times. Together we can create a ripple effect of compassion and generosity that reaches far beyond what we can imagine. By joining forces and rallying support for this cause, we're not just offering temporary relief; we're planting seeds of hope and empowerment. Every donation, no matter how big or small, has the power to transform someone's life. It's often easy to underestimate the impact of a simple act of kindness, but for someone in need, it can mean the world. Your support could provide shelter, nutrition/ meals, or essential resources that can help someone rebuild their life and regain stability. Let's come together and be the beacon of hope that lights the way for those in need.
