FRIENDS!! The 2024-2024 school year will be the last year of the Virtual STEM Role Model Project! This project virtually connects high school students with professionals working in STEM fields, as well as with students currently in a STEM Program (college, university, technical school, apprenticeship). These STEM students and professionals are referred to as Role Models in this project. These virtual connections between high school students and Role Models allow high school students to hear a diverse set of STEM career pathways and journeys, as they themselves prepare to pursue their careers. Not two STEM pathways/journeys are identical, and there are so many STEM careers to explore! Hearing about the different STEM career options and the different pathways that different Role Models took, will inspire high school students to explore their own interests and plan out their own pathways. If you are a STEM Professional and you are interested in learning more about how you can volunteer in this project and share your STEM journey with high school students, please reach out to Ariel Medina at Ariel.medina@esd105.org or Hanah Singco at Hanah.singco@esd105.org.

Our Founder & CEO, Shiloh McLeod gives insight into the motivation behind creating Stemmed for Success.
Following my graduation this past fall, I can’t help but to reflect on my collegiate journey. Aside from being overwhelmingly proud of my accomplishments, I also recognize the obstacles I faced during my five year career. As we know, college isn’t easy for anyone, especially for those who are starting with less. As someone from the inner city of Philadelphia, and a product of the public school system, I would be remiss if I didn’t admit that I wonder what my path may have been given different circumstances or better resources. With that being said, I’ve decided to create a nonprofit organization aiming to alleviate the concerns many students face in relation to their educational needs. Stemmed for Success is a nonprofit organization for underrepresented high school students with the intent to major in STEM related fields. We will provide students with a variety of aid via fellowship and scholarship opportunities, along with free programs to ease their college journey. I am extremely excited to begin this journey and help the next generation of STEM students make a difference in the world. Please feel free to follow Stemmed for Success and share any updates with high school students you know.

In the realm of STEM education, the journey to success often involves navigating through a myriad of challenges, including academic transitions and career aspirations. For transfer students, the path can be particularly daunting as they navigate new environments and opportunities. However, for those who find themselves part of initiatives like the TraIN project, the transition becomes not just manageable, but a springboard to excellence and achievement. Meet Andrea, Devin, and Amina--three graduate students who embarked on their STEM journeys as transfer students and found their footing through the TraIN project. Each with their unique stories and aspirations, they exemplify the resilience and determination characteristic of those who dare to pursue their dreams. https://lnkd.in/gBayeYRx
