UPDATE: TAMPA, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, February 19TH, 2024 The US Patriot Chamber of Commerce (USPCOC) is excited to announce its inaugural Veterans’ Transition & Leadership Conference (V-TLC), set to take place on February 19 at the historic Hotel Haya in Ybor City, Tampa. This pioneering event is designed to assist veterans in transitioning from military to civilian life, focusing on harnessing and translating their leadership skills for the civilian sector. In an era where military recruitment and retention face significant challenges, the V-TLC represents a critical initiative. The conference offers a comprehensive daylong program aimed at enabling service members to effectively translate their military experience into civilian terms, refine their interview skills, and master the art of networking. The event welcomes not only individuals transitioning from MacDill AFB but also other recently separated veterans eager to embark on a new career path. Registration kicks off at 0745 hours, with the day’s activities concluding at 1730 hours (5:30 PM for civilians). A key feature of the V-TLC is its collaboration with The Leadership Institute, which will facilitate a panel of civilian leadership experts from the Tampa Bay area. The panel is set to include noteworthy figures such as Diana Almeida, the first female member and chair of the Port of Tampa Board of Directors, and Housh Ghovaee, owner of Northside Engineering. These leaders will offer insights and advice, helping veterans navigate their transition into impactful civilian roles. The conference aims not only to connect veterans with employment opportunities but also to position them for success in leadership roles within the civilian workforce. This aligns with the USPCOC’s mission to support veterans in leveraging their skills and experiences for meaningful post-service careers. Just under four years ago, amidst the challenges of the COVID lockdown, I was one of a trio of passionate individuals gathered (in a socially distanced fashion) outside a coffee shop under the warm sunshine. Our mission? To envision a high potential talent programme tailored for the military. Each of us brought unique perspectives to the table, but one common belief bound us together: this programme had to transcend traditional learning methods. We knew that leaders weren't made by memorising facts, or by being holed up in a classroom; we wanted them to embark on a journey of self-discovery, identifying their strengths and areas for growth. Our vision was to empower them to craft their own development pathways, armed with the tools and guidance needed to flourish. We knew the sky would be the limit, driven solely by their determination and imagination. Fast forward to today, witnessing the remarkable achievements of our SNCO participants fills me with awe and pride. Their dedication, innovation, and unwavering commitment have surpassed all expectations. It's a testament to the transformative power of providing individuals with the right resources and opportunities. As I reflect on the programmes journey, from "Key Duties", to the "HPTP Pilot" to "RAF LEAD", I am filled with anticipation for the future. The impact of this programme extends far beyond its inception, shaping the leaders of tomorrow and fostering a culture of excellence within our enlisted ranks. Whilst I have moved on to other projects, I know that the right people are leading the programme and I can't wait to see what the future holds for these extraordinary individuals and the continued evolution of the RAF LEAD programme. #HighPotential #LeadershipDevelopment #TransformativeJourney #MilitaryExcellence #RAFLEAD Matthew Williams Jame Stewart MBE Carina Sandells Paul Webber

The irony here is that these types of transition assistance programs should have a positive effect on retention in the long term. 1) Military personnel have a chance to learn about the harsh realities that come with leaving the security of the military. They often return to the mission feeling better about their choices. 2) These types of programs help the federal government fulfill its promises to veterans which is where the idea originated in the first place, to mitigate issues with veteran homelessness and unemployability. Just as important as that, it in turn makes less disgruntled veterans who then support the future of our fighting forces. I recently read more veterans than ever before are actually discouraging youth from joining because of unfulfilled promises. Historically, the military has always been a way for the best of society to change their station. Why should we reduce such a strong incentive? Not to mention the simple truth this poster alluded to: supportive leaders inspire more followers. I hope we don’t see this type of knee-jerk reaction in other branches.
I hate this mindset. I bet senior leadership got together and did a SWOT and this came up as a “threat”. A threat to readiness is a developed transition program that helps service members obtain careers and allows employers to better access our veterans. 🤷♂️ What the individual service member and potential recruit sees - Your potential success after service is not a DOD priority.
