The report highlights key points wrt Terror Financing. However I believe issues such as cyber attacks holding government and key private sector institutions ransom, should also be highlighted as a significant concern. This year alone has shown a significant increase in the volume of data breaches, with over 5 key government institutions compromised. The data stolen/deleted or systems held ransom is placing the South African economy and it's people at risk.

On Friday there was a public defence of a PhD at the university on the subject of Uroyi by Samuel Nyasha titled: Uroyi: Contesting “Witchcraft” Regulation in Zimbabwe, 1890-2023. This defense brought so many people together. There were people from Kenya, Uganda, Canada, Tz, Zimb, Zam, SA and others. I am inspired by it and look forward to a public defence of my PhD in a few years. Some of the highlights 1. Courage To do unconventional study 2. Find several avenues to show your work, even teach courses on it. 3. Look for collaboration. Many of them 4. Be involved with your work, that is, be fully immersed in your study 5. Be aware of researcher bias 6. Write well 7. Adequately prepare for your defense #phdviva#phddefense

Caribbean Civil Society seeks a stronger voice in defining sustainable development priorities in small island states, and a recognition of the vital the role they can play. "The Caribbean We Want" is a document developed by Caribbean Civil Society outlining priorities to feed into the SIDS4 conference in May 2027. We are asking governments and business to recognise 1) the role of civil society in transition 2) that economic development is a lot about small and micro enterprises, not just big business 3) that justice is critical, and needs to be integrated into development plans and governance We need a shift in mindset so that government work with civil society. https://lnkd.in/e8rcu9me Go check out the SIDS4 site (https://lnkd.in/eqwj4dg6), and of course the CANARI website (www.canari.org) or write to Canari at sids4@canari.org
🌅 CANARI's Executive Director, Nicole Leotaud, sat down with TTT's The Now Morning Show this week to discuss the upcoming Fourth International Conference on SIDS (SIDS4) taking place from May 27-30 in Antigua and Barbuda. 🏝️ Check out the interview to find out why the SIDS4 conference is so important for Caribbean small island developing states and what it means for achieving the Caribbean We Want. 📺 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eDaC7YqB #CaribbeanWeWant #SustainableFuture #SIDS #SIDS4
