International Contracts & Grants|Compliance| Business Systems| Reducing Waste & Fraud in foreign aid delivery since 1996
Great idea from #USAID #LAC This would be a great program to incorporate a social investment concept. I would not allow a massive go nowhere Co Ag to come out of it. I would set this up in 2 phases. First as a grant fund with maybe some diaspora, private sector philanthropy investors that do not need the money back. The fund would use a high tech screening system instead of 400% overhead IPs with armies of home office stuff. We would build an online multi-language AI platform for submission and review of concepts: estimated cost of design is $450K+ minimal runnings costs + technical review panel of education experts (like Aga Khan foundation or other cutting edge access to education innovators like Tesla). The online platform will do most of the wheat from chaff work: translation, basic eligibility matching, viability and the initial algorithm for success probability. I would then use private sector money and/or USAID money to set up an education investment fund or Social Investment Bond to provide sustainability loans and equity for the most successful innovations that came out of the grant fund. These could then replicate and institutionalize. USAID could be an investor in such fund with a returnable or non-returnable grant or an outcome funder for the bonds through OTA. This would be an incredible use of $50MIL. Happy to talk #teaming! :-)
To all those in the education donor space in the Latin America & Caribbean region; the LAC bureau at USAID is very excited to be able to list this upcoming grant opportunity on the USAID business forecast (*not a notice of funding, but a forecast of one in the future). Please share this around with your interested contacts! LAC Regional Fund for Basic Education https://lnkd.in/gpivPFGz

The proof of the impact of our approach is in the numbers. Some of our Fund’s grantees have been in operation for 10+ years and yet, for 30% this was their first grant. For 70% it was their largest grant. In this way, we are uplifting crucial actors in the community whose efforts have largely lacked basic support or the opportunity to scale. Our Grantee partners also report that the ability to spend the money on core funding has allowed for crucial staffing and infrastructure investments that would otherwise go unfunded.
