Aesthetics as continuation of journalism. Founder of WorldProcessor global mapping project, Kanal X TV, and now Aesthetics of Diplomacy: DIPLOMACHINE.ORG
Diplomachine.org: the Aesthetics of Diplomacy project For this project, significant scenes and scenarios from the history of diplomacy have been selected and generated as key objects. At one end is a sculpture that embodies the complexity of the subject, uniting the shared cultural and geographical history of the North Asian countries—Japan, Korea, and China. Depending on the perspective, one country appears dominant over the others. At the other end, visual representations of significant moments in the history of diplomatic negotiation are displayed. Some of these situations, which could also have been recreated as films, were materialized as sculptural reconstructions of documented, but otherwise apocryphal and initially secret, records of a largely oral and personal historiography.

The #seeding of a larger conversation with lots of potential to generate meaningful outcomes for #indigenouspeoples and beyond! A big question is (in the context of the good ole' definition of #insanity, "To continue the same #behaviour and expect different results"), is #conventional diplomacy #fitforpurpose today, and if not, what does fit-for-purpose look like and how do We implement it? E.g. I raised the need for more #metaphysical #diplomacy (including a more inclusive exploration of what that looks like in practical terms). It was also timely to be reminded of the #UN #pactforthefuture now being drafted (many concerns have been expressed about how this is just another way to progress #pathological #capitalistic, #greenneoliberal, #corporate agendas and the #WEF's and the #elites' world domination) ahead of the #summitofthefuture to be held 22-23 September 2024. Look it up, folks!
We welcomed back 2019 World Fellow Diego Tituaña to Yale University as he and 2006 World Fellow Jessica Faieta hosted the Indigenous Diplomacy Symposium. The panelists discussed creative ways in which indigenous communities can build pipelines and strengthen alliances on the international stage. We were reminded of the importance of cultivating relationships across communities and cultures and encouraged to “sit around the campfire” and discover our common ground.

It's a great honor to be invited to speak at the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce, a renowned institution where the study of diplomacy and international commerce seamlessly intersect. My late father, Dr. Naji Ayyash, was a dedicated diplomat, and I currently have the privilege of leading Kentucky's premier international trade association. Speaking at such a distinguished institution is truly humbling.

In the world of international diplomacy, charisma and confidence often take center stage. However, I have witnessed how these very traits, when taken to extremes, can morph into a subtle yet potent force that disrupts the delicate balance of power. Recognizing the nuances of narcissistic behaviors has become an essential skill for effective leadership. #NarcissismUnveiled #HealingFromAbuse #SurvivorEmpowerment #AuthenticityWins #BreakTheCycleOfManipulation

DESIGNING FOR DIPLOMACY | This is how historic preservation and diplomacy come together: check out how the National Firing Range - a place that holds significant social and cultural history for Milan, #Italy - is being converted into a new U.S. Consulate building. The United States has a lot of these consulate buildings around the world and this video shares a good bit about the process behind these buildings: why it's so important to blend American design and the building in context with its surrounding geography, culture and history. All of this has to be done in partnership with local governments to manage our embassies around the world. Have you been to an American consulate building before? My Reflections on Diplomacy and Civil Rights: Insights from “Protocol” and the Legacy of MLK As we honor Martin Luther King Jr. today, I find myself deeply engrossed in Capricia Penavic Marshall’s “Protocol: The Power of Diplomacy”. It strikes me how diplomacy and the fight for civil rights, as championed by MLK, share profound similarities. Both realms require: 1.Strategic Communication: Just as diplomats navigate complex international terrains with careful communication, MLK’s speeches and writings show us the power of words to advocate for justice and equality. 2.Persistence in the Face of Challenges: Diplomats often work under high stakes, much like civil rights activists who relentlessly pursued their cause despite immense obstacles. 3.Building Bridges: At the heart of diplomacy is the art of creating understanding and alliances, a principle mirrored in MLK’s vision of a unified society, transcending racial and cultural divides. As we reflect on MLK’s enduring legacy, let’s also recognize the role of diplomatic skills in advocating for change and equality. Let’s continue to learn from the past and apply these timeless principles in our professional and personal lives. #MLKDay #Diplomacy #CivilRights #Leadership #Equality
