"We have too many proposals, too many ideas. My problem is we have to translate them into reality. Either we industrialize or we die! We sit down here and we are recipients of all the horrible sub-standard products that people send us and we are so happy to achieve it. We achieve it because we inherited them. We think that we are doing good. We are not doing good, we are dying. Africa as a continent, we are dying... I will plainly say that I am a Pan-Africanist. We are going to have to start expansion, how we are going to come together. I have a mandate to brand Africa- that is what I am doing!"- Kofi Ansah (talks to young Africa) #RIP (1951-2014)
On the 10th anniversary of the Icon of Ghanaian and African fashion - the industry in Ghana and across Africa is still trying to find its feet to make an impact and to walk amongst the Giants of industry in their own authentic shoes. Hopefully Mr. Ansah's dream for Ghana and the entire continent in industrialization thru fashion will come to fruition beyond just building countless separated factions with a plethora of ideas and proposals to nowhere. As 🇬🇭 renews it’s talk on industrialization- the fashion industry should be part of the conversation. We need to get beyond the aesthetic superficiality of fashion and get into the business of fashion as a nation and a continent....
We don’t celebrate our icons like Kofi Ansah, Saint Ossei, Chez Julie’s impact on putting 🇬🇭 on the global fashion map beyond being known for Kente and “African Prints”. These were visionaries whose blueprints should be studied in building a sustainable fashion industry in 🇬🇭
