When we tell communities, social institutions, and individuals to invest in solar, we’re not just promoting a trend but advocating for transformative, sustainable solutions that change lives. Do you remember the Bondeni community water project? (https://lnkd.in/d9SQdFz5) The one that serves over 250 households which translates to at least 750 users? In just one year, the Bondeni community water project has transformed lives and demonstrated incredible resilience. After drilling a borehole in 2019, the community faced significant challenges with high operational costs. But guess what? They’ve turned those challenges into a success story! Thanks to their dedication and innovative approach, Bondeni has not only stabilized their water supply but has also saved a substantial amount—Ksh 75,000 every month! That’s right, Ksh 900,000 annually in savings! And here’s the best part: These savings are being reinvested into the community. They’re now using these funds to drill a new borehole, proving that when a community comes together with a shared vision, the sky’s the limit. Congratulations to the Bondeni Community and our amazing partners— Africa Instore Solutions, GIZ Kenya and SOLARGEN —for making this happen. Your commitment to sustainable development and collective action is truly inspiring. Stay tuned as we continue to support and celebrate such incredible achievements! #CommunitySuccess #SustainableDevelopment #WaterForAll #AfricaInstoreSolutions #InnovationInAction #Successstory

What a wonderful and inspiring report of how communities are moving towards self sustainability by investing in solar technology.

TRUSTING LOCALLY LED ORGANIZATIONS TO DELIVER THE NEEDED RESULTS Locally led organizations are best positioned to deliver results and impact at scale! Faced with the challenge of funding and the threat of compromising our vision and mission in the face of 'donor funding dictates', and 'dangling' a carrot that might help us survive, we must stay on course. It is better to refuse funding that does not align with our mission than to accept convenient offers that could breed and sow the seeds of destruction for our mission. For five years, we have refused to bend just to fit into the donor funding scope for survival. Instead, we have stayed true to our mission even in difficult times. We understand that infrastructure is expensive, but we take it one day at a time - "equiping communities with solar-powered water infrastructure and systems for productive use, food security, house hold income and improved livelihoods." For us, that is a game-changers. Thank you to our partners Tevel and MashaV for the greenhouse, which will provide the community of Mphande in Zambia with seedlings for their keyhole gardens at each home, using less water. Below, Oden Hamachila is checking the seedlings and ensuring they are receiving the needed water! We are Africa Access Water! www.africaaccesswater.org #tevel #solarpoweredwaterforproductiveuse

💧💦Happy #WorldWaterDay! Today, we reflect on the critical role of #partnerships in increasing access to clean water for all. Across Africa, a staggering 418 million people lack access to clean water, highlighting the urgent need for collective action. Addressing this problem exceeds the capacity of any one individual organization. It calls for organizations and communities to work together and share their resources, technical expertise and ideas. In 2022, we joined forces with Davis & Shirtliff to increase access to clean water for vulnerable communities in four countries: #Zambia, #Kenya, #Ethiopia, and #Uganda. Since then, our partnership has expanded to include additional stakeholders - DuPont Water Solutions, Maji Milele Limited, national and local governments, and local communities. The poster below shows each stakeholder's role in project implementation. In addition to the four countries, we intend to extend this partnership to other countries where we work across #Africa. Working with the aforementioned partners and many more, ChildFund reached more than 2.5 million people in #Africa, including #children and their families, through various #WASH programs in 2023. #WorldWaterDay #SDG6 #Waterislife #Waterforpeace #cleanwater #WorldWaterDay2024

Did you know that almost half of Mozambique's population lacks access to a reliable water supply, and that it's often women and children who bear the burden of long treks to collect water, hindering their education and other opportunities? In the Matutuine community, over 650 families were relying on unsafe and unhealthy water sources, jeopardizing their health. Through the Viva con Agua project, EDP has financed a solar-powered desalination system, enabling it to provide free drinking water to 500 students and sell affordable water to the entire community. With approximately 2,000 beneficiaries, this energy transition project stands as a testament to its ability to transform the lives of entire communities. Learn more about this inspiring initiative. Also, EDP just announced the 10 new projects supported by the A2E fund! Check them here: http://ms.spr.ly/6047iX6Sc. #EDPWeChooseEarth #AllGreen2030 #EnergyTransition

NON~REVENUE WATER.🌝🤔💧🛢️Whenever you hear people complaining about a problem, deep down know there is a great opportunity for people who are willing to create solutions for the same. That's the same case for NRW in Kenya, it's not just a problem it's an opportunity to create business cases around the issue and attract funding from the private sector to solve the problem, once and for all. As the saying goes, "great opportunities are not seen by the eye but by the mind." We players in the sector need to train our minds and see past the problem we are facing.😇 #PerformanceBasedContractingForNRW #StopTheLeak #WaterServicesProviders #NonRevenueWater

#Project_led_development_and_Sustainability If your project is running for two years, avoid capital investment interventions. You close your project when the project participants wants you the most. This is what we are seeing in the villages we are visiting. Waste of funds donated by well meaning citizens of Western Countries. Concepts can be good on paper, but as Project Managers, your role is to think beyond the concept, contextualize the concept, if it makes sense and can stand a taste of time, implement it. If not, tell the donor the truth and implement that which is contextually suitable. Project proposals written without conducting proper context analysis and technological proofing are a waste of resources. #This_project_below closed and the solar pump malfunctioned, the fish pond owners had no clue of how to repair the solar powered water reticulation system. They kept hoping the project developers would come to their aid but to no avail. The water dried and the fish died. The end line report of the project ticked the indicator matrix correctly. This is the case of most projects killing Africa. #We_can_do_better_Africa

The second project that we have supported by offsetting our 2023 carbon tonnage with Native, is the Mozambique Clean Drinking Water Project, led by the nonprofit Village Water. The project installs and maintains borehole water infrastructure to provide communities with safe, clean drinking water. As a result of this project to date, over 36,000 people have access to clean drinking water, and over 98 million litres of drinking water is supplied annually. 💧 Clean drinking water not only reduces the risk of waterborne illnesses, but also the need to boil water for purification, which saves over 95,000 tonnes of firewood annually and reduces CO2 emissions. The project also allows women and girls to spend more time on other activities previously dedicated to collecting water and firewood. #sdg #cleanwater #carbonoffset #climateaction

For many families in southern Tajikistan, greenhouses are more than just a structure, they're a symbol of change offering a different, hopeful future. The USAID-funded Market Driven Rural Development (MDRD) Activity is teaming up with the Imon Fund, a microcredit organization, to expand the Fund's reach to the less industrially developed south, allowing the transfer of years of expertise serving farmers and agribusinesses to the region. Read about how, with support from MDRD, the Imon Fund is providing financial loans and innovative high-quality greenhouses to smallholder farmers in the region, empowering farmers and enhancing their livelihoods: https://bit.ly/3LzznPD
