I have known and followed Eder Sarabia since his first experience as Quique Setién's assistant at Las Palmas. That team, along with Betis in the following years, are the teams that fascinated me the most and helped me develop my knowledge of the positional play model. When Eder began his journey as a head coach with Andorra, I was immediately convinced that he would be a very interesting coach and that his style would generate a lot of attention. This season, he will lead Elche CF in a top-tier campaign in the Segunda División. In the match against Córdoba, they used a 3-3-2-3 positional structure (with GK) in 'open build-up' situations, where the opposing team (4-2-3-1 defensive shape) applied pressure that effectively controlled the spaces. The GK was mainly used to create an initial 3v1, allowing one of the two CBs to carry the ball forward, breaking through the first line of pressure, and seeking solutions to progress. In this situation, the use of the 3v1 is effective. The left CB's ball progression happens without interference, due to the opponents marking the reference points, and on the opposite side, it causes disorganization, creating free space for direct progression. Did you know the Copa America is the world’s oldest international football (soccer) tournament?! It was first held in 1916 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Argentina’s independence! This past month I had the privilege of working as a Competition Analyst and Training Site Coordinator for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024. This position allowed me to explore the world of mega sports events highlighting the extensive preparation it takes to plan and execute international sporting competitions. My role included communicating with different stakeholders to ensure that the designated training sites were up to par with CONMEBOL standards while fulfilling the immediate demands from the national teams using them. My key takeaways from this experience are: 1.) Timely and efficient communication is crucial when looking to work with different stakeholders to achieve a common goal. 2.) Do not promise anything you can’t deliver! It is imperative to check in with all partners and review all regulations before committing to doing something. 3.) Create a daily checklist and share this document with your team and all personnel involved. Being on the same page means being a step ahead! 4.) Go above and beyond with every detail! Mega events are all about reputation and building relationships. If you leave a positive impression and image of your site/stadium/city it will be more likely this same event will be hosted there again! #copaamerica #megasports #football

This might be the worst feeling a coach might go through... when he feels that his team is not coming together and is not ready to fight up to its standards. After a second loss in a row at home in the Euroleague, this time against Panathinaikos (76-81), Šaras Jasikevičius made a statement, affirming that things had to change if the team wanted to be successful again. Even though Fenerbahce's players have shown resilience and kept fighting to come back from down 14, to lead the way in the final minutes of the game, their lack of consistency in providing a high level of focus and intensity, led them to turn the ball over too many times (15 vs 10 for Panathinaikos yesterday), and to another loss after the one against Red Star Belgrade a week earlier (57-76). Now, the coach (and his staff) is in charge of finding the solutions to bring the team together, and it takes a lot of vulnerability for someone with such charisma, experience, and success to openly discuss the topic.
